Pirate's Adventure Birthday Party

Aye, Aye Matey! What young man hasn't wanted to be a pirate? Find the buried treasure? Discover an island? Meet Captain Hook? Well, maybe not the last one, but this is a great party for any adventurous mate. Plan a great party with this Pirate's Adventure Party.

Invitations

Make your invitation creative! I suggest a treasure map to your house, what else? This wouldn't be too hard to do and the whole family can get involved. Just make sure the clues aren't too hard! Draw it, and then take it to a local Kinko's or print shop to be printed on tan paper (or parchment if they will do it inexpensively). Have guests come dressed as their favorite pirate or theme it around Peter Pan and have them come as one of those characters.

Or simply order a really fun pirate party invitation or make your life much easier and order a pirate invitation with matching decorations and paper goods.

Decorations

Decorate the place with black, gold, and silver balloons, pictures of pirate ships, a skull here and there, and maybe even some empty bottles with the word POISON on them. (Don't forget those XXs you see in the cartoons.).  Put some pirate cutouts  on the wall and a 39” pirate to set the mood.

You’ll probably want some pirate flags strategically placed throughout the room. Everyone knows a pirate’s best (and only) friend is a parrot so why not have a huge inflatable parrot to help brighten the room

Decorate your table with gold coins as confetti (chocolate foil covered gold coins are even better), treasure map place mats (that send them from room to room at your house looking for treasure), and a pirate hat at each place setting. For the centerpiece, use a treasure chest filled with Mylar gold and silver shreddz (crinkled paper) and balloons coming out from the inside.

Put eye patches at each place setting. If you're so inclined, find some plastic costume hooks that the kids can wear during the party. Just don't let them try to eat the cake with it. Parrot balloons and other parrot decorations all around the room will add to the feeling of being a pirate. Of course you’ll need pirate plates, cups, napkins and tablecovers.  You can choose from a nice assortment of pirate theme paper goods.

Menu

What do pirates eat? They love anything that makes a mess! Choose whether you have a "build your own hot dog/burger" bar, or a pizza making station (let the kids choose from a few different toppings, and then just put mini-pizzas on English Muffins or Bobboli bread in the oven to bake). One thing pirates definitely love to do is eat cake and ice cream. How do I know? Tinkerbell told me!

Pirate Costumes.

One of the really fun things about a pirate party is the ability to dress up your guests, or at least the guest of honor.

MakesParties.com has some good, inexpensive options. Start with decorating your guests to get them in the spirit of the event.  Kids will figure out how to play pirate if they’re dressed like one!  Think about a pirate skull cap, a pirate vest, or even a pirate necklace.  Add a pirate telescope and you have a ready made party favor.

And of course BuyCostumes.com has a great selection of pirate costumes and accessories.

Activities

·         Have everyone watch Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan or Hook (with Robin Williams) and have a trivia contest when it's over for prizes.

·         Have a treasure hunt. Hide prizes in different rooms throughout the house; give out clues and a treasure map-mentioned above)

·         Use all of your pirate strength to try and bust a treasure chest piñata

Party Favors

·         As kids enter the party, give each a mustache and an eye patch and have them wear it. You may also want to get some bandannas to tie around their heads. This is a great time to whip out the Polaroid camera and take each child's picture with the guest of honor. Small clear plastic frames can be found at any discount store, and can easily be decorated with gold coins and other pirate paraphernalia. At the end of the party, slip each photo into a frame for a nice keepsake.

·         Put all the booty in a loot bag.

·         Give away a pirate's treasure favor pack
