Well, this is fun. Especially if you're Jewish. I never got to trim a tree
at home, so when I was invited to a friend's house, it was with glee I
hopped, skipped and jumped to their front door. I remember it well.
This is a perfect party for
family and friends. Get the eggnog ready!
Invitation
We've got some great
Christmas tree invitations
that would work
just fine! It's what you say that I'm worried about. Make it a fun poem (a
re-do of the Night Before Christmas or your very own)...or just write it in
plain English, but ask your friends to bring an inexpensive ornament or
other creative decoration (for a prize). You don't necessarily have to use
them--but it's built in entertainment.
If you need nametags because it's a mixed group of friends, relatives and
co-workers let's say, why not make little Christmas stockings and put them
on lanyards or chains for people to wear around their necks. Or a
Santa Hat with their names written on the brim! It's something different
and it helps as an ice-breaker when you know the name of the person you're
talking to! Trust me.
You may also want to put on some
Christmas music near the front door (outside would be great), as a
welcome.
Decorations
Well, needless to say you probably have your decorations up in the attic,
no? Every year people bring out the box of decor and "do the house." You may
want to add garland to the fireplace, over the doors and throughout the
house. Plus, "b" lights or Christmas lights anywhere and everywhere is so
festive you may decide to leave them up all year long. Also, at any party
store, you can find reindeer, bell and even Santa lights to string
up--always fun.
Then, of course, the mistletoe. Don't forget that. Ever.
There is a great
Christmas Tree Room Roll that can be put up around the room to create a
sea of Christmas trees in the room.
Decorate your table with fun paper goods and accessories. Try
Starlite Christmas
to make your table look great. Don't forget to add
Christmas confetti,
guest towels in the bathroom and cocktail napkins for the bar.
Tie
Christmas Bell Necklaces
around the napkins to top things off. I promise everyone will wear
them for the rest of the night.
Around the house, use the seasonal candy that comes out this time of year.
Scatter it as confetti or use it as snacks: Hershey kisses in red and green,
red and green M&Ms, foil-wrapped red and green bells and more!
Activities
Besides the usual poem recitation and caroling, an ornament scavenger hunt
might be fun. Ask your friends to look through different rooms to find the
ornaments. Assign them teams, and give them clues. They'll have a ball! As
well, have each person stand up and describe the ornament they brought with
them, why they think it is creative and what inspired them--people (even
your guests) are naturally funny and entertaining.
For the kids (if they are invited), you may want to give them a stocking
filled with a Christmas puzzle, Santa book with crayons, hand clappers, a
trick, a wire puzzle, some fun glasses and more!
Favors
An
Personalized Photo Chocolate Ornament
to take home would be a
perfect for this party.
Speaking of
chocolate, our customized
candy bar wrappers
look great wrapped around a chocolate bar gift.
