Royal Wedding Watch Party

Thirty years ago we watched the wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles. There was the horse-drawn carriage, the ornate cathedral, and the dress with the huge train! It was a real life Cinderella wedding.

On April 29th, the world will watch the princess story of a new generation when Prince William takes Kate Middleton to be his bride. Sadly, none of us made the royal guest list, but we can watch it on TV (and have a party of course)! If you one of the many who will be throwing an Royal Wedding Watch Party on April 29th then read on for ideas on how to make your event, (while not as illustrious as the one at Westminster Abby), ROYALLY FUN!

royal wedding watch Party Party Invitations
First decide when to have your party. If you want to watch the nuptials live and you live on the west coast your party will be in the middle of the night; east coast in the morning. You may want to have a sleep over, a late night party, or an early breakfast party depending on your timezone and group. Another option is to record the wedding and watch it later that day (at a more reasonable time). Both ways are fun... do what works best for you!

Let everyone know that this party should not be missed by sending a Royal Wedding Watch Party ticket invitation featuring our favorite couple!

You can send an invitation with a fun saying like "Save the date for William and Kate!" or

Or send a homemade invitation that uses the same wording as the official invite (with a few additions of course) -

The Lord Chamberlain is commanded by
The Queen to invite

royal wedding watch Party Decorations and Party Supplies
Decoration will make the Royal Wedding Watch Party even more fun! Instead of decorating the room though, decorate your guests! Here are some fun and regal party wearables (don't forget the camera) -
And don't forget the Prince William Royal Wedding Watch Party Photo Op. Everyone will want to take a pic with him before he is off the market.

royal wedding watch Party Menu
Use wedding theme paper goods on your table. Flowers make a great centerpiece. You can also set out a little pack of tissue or wedding bubbles at each place setting.

Your menu should certainly be inspired by British food. If you are having a breakfast/brunch here is a fun menu -
  • Stuffed French Toast
  • Tea Scones (here is a Basic British Scones Recipe)
  • Full Breakfast or "Fry-Up" of fried bacon, sausage, potatoes, corned beef hash, mushrooms, tomatoes
  • Eggs in a Basket
  • English Muffins
  • Fruit and Cheese Tray
  • Mimosas - perfect drink. Just mix a sparkling white wine with orange juice
If the party is later in the day have fish and chips. Or try individual size pot pies or Cornish pastries. How about a carving station with roast beef and roast lamb. Be sure to offer an assortment of tea (and biscuits) with dessert. You can have an elaborate "tea bar" with an assortment of teas along with honey, sugar and flavored creams. Or serve a fun dessert:

Eton Mess (Serves 5 to 6)

Eton mess is an English dessert which is traditionally served at Eton College's (Prince William's alma mater) annual cricket game against Winchester College.
  • 1 pound strawberries, hulled and quartered
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 3 cups meringue cookies broken into bits
Combine strawberries and granulated sugar in a large bowl. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Crush berries using a potato masher. Whisk together cream and confectioners sugar in a large bowl until soft peaks form. Gently fold in cookies and berries (with juices) until almost combined but ribbons of juice remain. Serve immediately.

royal wedding watch Party games and activities
Watching "The Wedding" will be the main activity of your party, but here are a few more fun things you can do with your friends -
  • Print out these cute Royal Wedding Paper Dolls for your guests to dress up
  • Take a stroll down memory lane and watch footage from the 1981 wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana
  • Play the Royal Wedding Drinking Game
  • Host a fancy dress competition to find the best-dressed king or queen
royal wedding watch Party Favors
The wedding is over, the champagne has been drunk, the fancy hats have gone home. How will your guests remember your party? With a fun party favor of course. Have your guests take home the party tiaras, crowns and their pictures with sweet William. Here are a few more fun favor ideas -
  • T-shirt or bag that  says "Commoner" or "Royal Subject"
  • Tea Bags with a little note saying "Thanks for coming to our Royal Wedding Watch Par-Tea!"
  • Pint glasses with a W & K monogram and the date are a fun favor too!
Have a great time at your watch party!
