Millennium
Magic Party!
There is nothing more fascinating for children than magic. Remember the old
days, when that coin was pulled from behind your ear, or when that eight of
hearts card mysteriously ended up on the top of the deck? Come, on we can all
admit that we marveled! What better way to add to the fascination of the
Millennium New Year, then to incorporate a magic theme that will keep children’s
eyes wide the entire night?
Welcome Gifts:
When each child enters, give them a magic trick or a deck of cards with
instructions on how to perform a certain card trick (take into consideration
ages of the children so that the tricks are age appropriate). During the
evening, each child has to learn how to perform a trick.
Decorations:
Easy and simple, but fun. Use black, white, and silver Mylar balloons,
black top hats with stuffed bunnies coming from inside for table centerpieces,
black table cloths and votive candles and top hat confetti or playing cards as
confetti strewn across various places. You might consider having full decks of
cards around since your guests may pick them up and start entertaining.
Food:
Again, is simple but fun for kids
- Betty Crocker Magic Potion Punch
- ½ cup chocolate flavored syrup
- 2 cups milk
- 2 cans cola or lemon-lime soda pop (room temperature)
- Whipped topping, if desired
Stir together chocolate syrup and milk in 4 cup microwavable measure
until well blended. Microwave uncovered on High 3-4 minutes or until hot.
Divide heated mixture among 8 paper "hot" cups or mugs. Slowly
poor about 3 ounces (1/3 cup) soda pop into each cup. Top with whipped
topping.
- Black Magic Cake (find a great flourless
chocolate cake recipe)
- Pretzel wands that the kids have made
- Tacos and Pita pizzas are always fun foods that kids can make themselves
(with help of course).
Activities:
Numerous, use your imagination and have fun:
- Make chocolate covered pretzel rods and decorate with sprinkles for
magic wands.
- Have the children decorate their very own magic hat. You can buy
pre-made black top hats and have them decorate them with glitter, ribbon,
pompoms, and other fun materials that you find at a local craft store.
- Send the kids on a scavenger hunt for magical items. You can divide them
up into teams if you like.
- The grand event of the evening is a magic show where all of the kids
perform the trick they’ve learned that night.
- At midnight, if any of the kids are still around or up, make the moment
magical by having sparkling cider for them so that they can toast along
with the adults!
