Winter is a magical time for everyone, but especially for children who take joy in making snowmen and angels outside. Whether or not you live in a cold climate with snow, you can create a winter wonderland in your home for the New Year.

New Year's Party Invitations

Party411’s Creations for You has designed some fun invitations that are perfect for this theme.

Line your driveway or sidewalk with white luminary bags (you can find them at a local party store with snowflake cutouts). Decorate your house with white bee lights (the kind that go on Christmas trees). Have children make many snowflakes before the party and/or during the event to hang from the ceiling, use as doilies, place on tables, etc. Buy cotton balls and fake snow and place around the house, on tables and in other spots. Order an ice sculpture for the buffet or beverage table. Use white or winter-themed plates, napkins, cups, utensils and balloons. Tie balloons to stuffed white bears, an ice bucket or other winter objects like miniature skis.  For more great decorating ideas and New Year’s Eve party supplies visit New Year's Eve Decorating411

Snowmen are a great theme for seasonal decorating. Appropriate for any group, this theme lasts long (anywhere from October to March, where I live) and brings a smile to any face. See our Snowman theme for some great decorating ideas that would really work well with this theme. Take a look at our Winter Wonderland theme for some great decorating ideas.

If your house has a Christmas tree, take down Christmas decorations and put up snowflakes, icicles and other winter items.

Food is easy, but requires some thought. Basically, anything white or frozen fits the bill here – Popsicles, ice cream, milkshakes, macaroni, bread, white chocolate, sugar cookies, popcorn, noodles, rice, white pizza, potatoes, whipped cream, marshmallows, meringue, hummus, pita bread, pork tenderloin, cauliflower, bananas, parsnips—the list goes on. Scale your local grocery for more ideas!

Children's activities are fun to execute and observe from an adult perspective as well as fun for the kids themselves.

  • Build figures with marshmallows and toothpicks
  • Let kids play in the snow
  • Freeze tag
  • Pin the skier on the mountain or the nose on the snowman
  • Winter clothes relay – divide kids into teams and have them race to see which team and dress and undress in winter garb
  • Scavenger hunt for winter related items (outside or in)
  • Cookie baking – with winter shapes (Williams Sonoma or Bed Bath & Beyond have numerous cookie cutters)
  • Make snowmen out of cut felt for children to take home and be reminded of the occasion
  • Make a snowflake wreath

Favors: Give a personalized candy bar wrapper to start the New Year off right!  Or take one of our personalized party favor boxes (link to that page) and pack it with hot chocolate, novelty socks and other seasonal stuff.
