One Fun New Year's Luau
Luau Party Invitations Anything tropical. Check out our invitations or find one at any stationery store. Ask your friends to dress tropical, touristy or summer. The tacky tourist thing is always fun—remember to have some single-use cameras on hand. There are some great photo ops available. Imagine having your guests pose in these luau photo ops and cutouts. Or use these luau scene setters as a backdrop. Decorations Visit Luau Decorating411 for some unbelievable decorations for your Holiday Luau. Outside the door, place a giant cut-out of a snowman and/or snowwoman with your face(s) welcoming all to your home. The kicker is that your wife is wearing a hula skirt and a coconut bikini top while you're wearing a beachcomber hat.Speech bubble: "Aloha! You've arrived at Barb and Joe's Tropical Paradise!" As your guests enter, they can pick up flower leis, flower bracelets and flower hair bands for their hair...to get them in the mood...or you can have someone greeting them and dressing them appropriately. If you can't have a real someone, Party411 can make a cut-out of a hula girl which is also nice for photo ops.If it is a mixed group of friends and nametags are called for, tag off flamingo necklaces with the name of each guest (so no one goes unknown). The first drink should be served in flamingo and/or pineapple cups with fruit or flamingo straws (or even those cool tropical drink umbrellas) coming out. Skirt the buffets and bar with flower tableskirt and tropical lights mixed with little white Christmas lights ("b" lights). Scatter tropical confetti on all of your tables and use neon maracas here and there for your more talented guests. Throughout the house, use coconut votive candles. Add some finishing touches like pink flamingo plush bean bag key chains or luau wrist bands around each napkin! Make signs for your buffet and bar with the menus listed, giving it a mix of holiday luau titles like Beach Holiday Hula Avocado Dip, Merry Merry Margaritas, etc. And here and there, use red and green palm trees with "gift" (non-partisan) ornaments hanging from them. Consider a CD of luau music, a limbo contest, a "pin the monkey on the palm tree" game and more. For some fun luau games and activities think limbo, or piñata or music or a combination of them all! This could be great fun and something none of your guests expect! Menu Tropical with a holiday flare. Banana fritters, coconut cake in the shape of a tree—things like that. Tropical drinks would be a nice touch as well…and, if we come up with a tropical drink with eggnog, I'll let you know! Check out our PartyMenu411 section for great menus. Luau Party Favors for the New Year Even though you are escaping to a tropical paradise you’ll still want party hats, noisemakers and tiaras for your guests. Have some palm tree eyeglasses available for your more daring guests. And of course some leis.
