Christmas Creations For You

Cookies and Christmas seems like the perfect combination to me, so I'm sure it's perfect for any kid!  Mix the two together at a party for the kids this Christmas.  Invite some adults to help decorate Christmas cookies too and you might just be able to get all your baking done at one time!

Christmas Cookie Invitation

Cookie Theme Holiday InvitationAny Christmas Invitation can be used for the invitation.  A personalized cookie theme invitation will get mouths watering for this fun party. Let everyone know that you will be baking and decorating cookies at the party.  You don't want them to get too dressed up and end up with their good clothes covered in sprinkles and frosting.

Add a Christmas cookie cutter for a fun addition to your invitation!  Just mail it in a small box or padded envelope.

If you are inviting adults to your party, be sure to add a recipe card! But make it blank...and ask them to bring it with them with a great recipe and a batch of their favorite cookies.  The adults can share cookies and relax (a bit) while the kids decorate the cookies.

Get The Kids Involved: This is their party, so let them help with the invitations.  Cutout gingerbread men on construction paper, add the party information and let the kids decorate the invitations (and envelopes) with markers, crayons and more!

Christmas Cookie Party Decorations and Party Supplies

Custom Holiday BannerWelcome kids with their own personalized apron. Make a list when people RSVP and personalize each apron.  Or let the kids decorate their own apron when they arrive.  Instead of a chef's hat give each kid a Santa hat to wear.

Hang a Christmas cookie banner from the door or in the kitchen to welcome everyone to the party.

The gingerbread room decorations are perfect for a cookie theme party.  There is a gingerbread man, a gingerbread house cutout and a peppermint drop walkway.  Your kids will love these and you'll get great photos of everyone posing with the Gingerbread man!  There is also a great gingerbread house balloon that can be used in balloon bouquets around the room.

Do some fun things like serve appetizers, cookies and all the "eats and treats" on cookie sheets, decorate with oven mitts that you've written Happy Holidays on, use candy sprinkles as confetti, etc. Be creative.  Don't forget Christmas paper goods (so you only have to clean up after the baking not the food).

Get The Kids Involved: Cutout big circles and let the kids decorate them to look like cookies.  Hang these from the walls for a fun cookie theme decoration.

Cookie Baking and Decorating!

Christmas Cookie SamplesThis is the fun part. The kids will LOVE this and the adults can help (they are just big kids) --so it's fun for all. Divide your guests into teams that can switch jobs at a moment's notice. One team makes the dough, one team prepares the cookie sheets (washes, dries, greases, etc.), one team makes the cookies with cookie cutters or teaspoons and one team decorates after they come out. Have plenty of frosting, sprinkles, eyes, noses, etc., plus cookie cutters, of course, on hand!

You can buy the store bought sugar cookies, but we prefer this recipe that is good for cutting and decorating (and makes a lot of cookies):

Sugar Cookie and Icing Recipe

Cookies
6 cups flour
2 1/3 cup granulated sugar
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 cups butter softened
2 eggs, beaten
5 tbsp heavy cream
2 tsp vanilla

Icing
1 cup of softened butter
2 pounds of confectioners sugar
1/2 cup of milk
1 1/2 tsp vanilla

Food coloring

Whisk dry ingredients together, and mix in butter. Mix in cream, vanilla and eggs until blended well. Chill in refrigerator for 1 hour.

Take section of the dough and roll it to 1/4 inch thickness (make sure to flour the board and the rolling pin). Cut out with cookie cutters and place on a lightly greased cookie sheet.

Bake 6-8 minutes at 400 F, one sheet at a time. Watch them carefully and remove the cookies from the oven as soon as you see them turning light brown at the bottom. Remove them from the cookie sheets and set them to cool on cookie racks.

To make the icing, simple mix the ingredients together until there are no lumps. Separate the icing into several different bowls, and add food coloring to each to achieve the icing colors you desire. Spread on cooled cookies with a butter knife to cover the cookies, and then use an icing bag and piping tips to add accents in a different color. If you would rather decorate the cookies with sprinkles, just brush the cookie with clear Karo syrup and then add sprinkles. Make sure to let your cookies sit so the icing can harden and dry.

Makes approximately 10 dozen cookies!  Yum!!

Christmas Cookie Party Favors

Custom Holiday Candy Bar WrapperSend the kids home with a container of the cookies you made.  Find a fun cardboard box with holiday decorations and fill the container for the kids, or let them help themselves to the different cookies you've made at the party.

Add a personalized Christmas candy bar to the box for an extra special touch.

After the party, be sure to make copies of all of the recipes you received and send the adults as an extra special thank you!

Happy baking and if there are extras, send some cookies to the PartyGirl!
