Rock Star Heaven and Hell

A Halloween Party

Okay. How many dead rock stars do you know? Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Croce, Buddy Holley, The Big Bopper, Duane Allman, Freddie Mercury, Mamma Cass, Jayne Mansfield and Marilyn (all right, so they weren't rock stars but they would have been if they could have been), Jim Morrison, John Belushi (a dead Blues Brother, no?), Kurt Cobain, what about those guys from the Ramones? Blah blah blah yada yada yada.  Find a Halloween costume and get ready to rock and roll!  Seeing your friends doing Janis or Jimi or Elvis is a blast.

This is a fun party. Even if you have duplicates, it's great to make comparisons.

Halloween Invitations

As always, Party411 can create a fab caricature with you as a ghoulish rock star (you pick who). Ask your friends to dress the part no matter what the invitation says.

Halloween Decorations

If your party venue is large or you will have a big group, you may consider dividing your rooms by decade or rock era. For example, by 50s, 60s, 70s, etc. or by Motown, Punk, Rockabilly, Metal, etc. If you do that, choose decorations that match the era. You may want to see our 50s and 70s parties for ideas there. Then, add your own Halloween twists. Dress your entryway with ghoulish rock fans. Use mannequins or lifesize cut-outs (Party411 can make these.) Have cameras available to take your guests' pictures with the stars. Flashing lights would add that "paparazzi" look, too.

Rock 'n' Roll is all about hype and flash. Roll out the red carpet for your guests, from the front entryway, down the sidewalk. If you can, rent a "velvet rope" to place at the doorway. You know, the kind outside of exclusive clubs that keep out the riffraff. Set the mood with black lights. In addition, string little white lights everywhere. Hang skeletons in door entries and from the ceilings. Party411 can make lifesize stand-ups of your favorite dead rock stars. We'll even dress them in costume if you so desire. Click here for a list of stars. Hand out sunglasses to each guest at entry. Choose from retro, Wayfarer, or wrap, styles. Use Graveyard Decorations at your entryway. As centerpieces, use black vases with black roses or really dark red, maroon colored roses, with lots of thorns. Maybe the roses are even a few days old and wilted. Fill in with orange and black Halloween balloons. Of course you’ll want to use black and orange plates, cups, napkins and plasticware. Tie Blinking Reflectors in white and orange around your napkins and cutlery. Use black and orange tablecloths.

Use faux tombstones to put on the buffets (easily done) and, of course, a cut-out of at least the front of a casket or two would be fun. Put a mummy inside of the casket. It's easy to make one out of plywood. Very Halloweeny!

Music

We have a Halloween album on cassette and CD or you can just play the music of dead rock stars. There's plenty of it (see that list again).

Have a lip sync contest, along with your costume contest to entertain your guests. Rent a karaoke machine and have inflatable guitars, microphones, and drums.

Halloween Menu

Fun food for all. Finger food is fine or go for something more complex depending on your budget. You can label the food with little tombstones to make your buffet stay in theme. Use your favorite stars to name the food, like Freddie Mercury's Fingers (chicken fingers) or Elvis' Pelvis (perhaps for some kind of beef dish)! Visit PartyMenu411 for great menus.
