Homecoming
Guide To...
Photo Opportunities
Not having a souvenir picture from your
homecoming is unthinkable. It is important
that you set up an area where couples can get their picture taken. Here are some
hints from the Party Girl…
- You need a well-lighted area, and a backdrop that is going to show up well
in the picture. Remember, if your photographer has to get too far back, the
faces will be so small, no one will know who’s standing there! Make sure
to rope it off or segment it in some way so that people aren’t constantly
walking through the picture! You laugh, but this happens more often than
not.
- You may want to consider a company that comes in, sets up and takes photo
favors. Most of them use a Polaroid camera and provide a folder with your
school name, logo and theme engraved on it. You can charge for these
(approximately $5 each) or you can add it to the ticket price. Then you know
something as important as a souvenir photo is in good hands.
- Homecoming/prom companies and poster companies alike have great photo murals for sale
for less than $100. Choose from the day and evening outdoor scenes to
skylines from exotic cities. Or match your backdrop to your theme with mural
drawings or banners. They come in all sizes and shapes, all colors and
themes--stars, roman, sun and moon, masks, hearts--even brick walls or
bamboo prints are available. Hang them on any wall to make a great backdrop,
focal point or special area for this or that.
- Rent a trellis, garden arches, park benches, trees, old-fashioned street
lamps and more from local prop companies. Most of them deliver for a nominal
fee. You may want to make an appointment to see what is available…you
never know what might strike your fancy.
- Have single use cameras available for sale that night. Perhaps you can
make a deal with a local camera store so that you can return those that didn’t
sell. Either way, your guests will love it that they can take candid shots
of their friends to have forevermore.
- Depending on your theme, you may also want to set up a "props"
area where people can grab hats, boas, masks and more. It’s something
different and the pictures are always worth saving!
