Homecoming!!
Well, it's that time of year again. Time to
pick the King and Queen. And some schools are now picking a prince and
princess...go figure! If your school is like most, there is a rally, a pre-game
parade, a game of course, a post-game gathering and a dance. Whew! That's too
much fun for me.
On the other hand, we want to help you make sure your homecoming
"party" is everything it should be--memorable, exciting and fun. We
can't help you with the game results, we're not good on floats (but we're happy
to help with a theme), and it's not up to us what you wear or who you bring--but
we can help on the planning.
As well, the party girl is available to you at any time--so feel free to get
in the spirit and give her a shout!
Pre-Party Festivities
For the pre-party festivities, we can get you all sorts of things...with or
without your logo...
- #1 hand
- key chain clickers
- clackers that look like the #1 hand but make noise!
- megaphones
- buttons and pins
- car flags
- I.D. holders and lanyards
- banner kits and car chalk
...and all the usual stuff like pennants and tattoos and
more!
Tailgate Party
The main thing is to "catch the spirit" and make sure all your
classmates do, too. Why not have a tailgate party before the parade (and/or
the game)? Pass out body paint, cheek tattoos, noisemakers
(clickers, clackers, horns and more), pom pom shakers, pennants
and other stuff to use to cheer on the team.
Serve subs, pizza, chips, dips, soda--whatever. No one will care. Paint
each other's faces, practice some cheers and/or your school song, get in
the game...before it starts. In fact, assign cheerleading duties to the most
creative in your group (that should be interesting). It will be way more fun
if you party before the party. Trust me.
At the Game
You can just go to the game or you can participate (whether or not you're
on the field). Make banners and placards. Enlist your row to cheer with
you...pass out signs, one with each letter that spells out G O T E A M. Make
sure everyone around you gets into it. Offer to paint
your neighbor's face. Give an extra megaphone to the person behind you. Offer clackers
to the people in front. You and your friends can up with your own cheering
section that is as effective as the cheerleading squad (and sometimes they can
use the help!)...
The Dance
Okay. Now we're getting somewhere. It's time to celebrate (like you haven't
been doing that all weekend, huh?).
Decorations:
Well, there are fabulous balloons with footballs on them; there are Mylar
football balloons that are cool; and there are regular latex in every
color under the sun--so pick your school colors.
Make balloon
bouquets in your school colors. Easy enough. Use them at the door, on the
tables, on the stage... anywhere and everywhere. As a base, tie four balloons
together (filled with water or sand), tie the bouquet off the base and then
cover it with pom poms in your school colors (so no one sees the base).
Make balloon
arches. Easier than you think. Using fish line, measure double the area
you are trying to arch across. Tie each end to a weight (sand or water
balloons work). Fill your first balloon with helium (I suggest using school
colors and alternating), and tie it off the dead middle.
Put up a "graffiti" wall for everyone to write a cheer or express
team spirit. All you need is mural paper (comes on a roll) or foamcore (buy
this at any art store). Provide markers, and let the fun begin. There's a wall
you don't have to decorate!
You'll need a photo opportunity, of course. Party411 can make you an oversized cut-out of your school mascot for
everyone to pose with (just send us a picture) or you can make your own. Don't
forget holders for the photos (imprinted or not)--we can help you with that,
too, if you'd like.
Blow up giant photos of your King and Queen (prince and princess, too, if
you have them) dressed in full royal regalia, and hang them behind the DJ or
band...as a backdrop.
Serve your first drink in an upside down megaphone that comes
complete with a top and straw and can be imprinted with your logo.
If you are serving dinner, snacks, whatever, here's a thought. Get some #1
key chains to use as a napkin ring (or a football key chain or class year
key chain works, too).
Personal Decorations:
Pass out "homecoming" cheek cheers (tattoos) that aren't
limited to cheeks and look great on shoulders and ankles, too. Each guest
should get at least two or three different types of glow jewelry, don't you
think? We have 3-color bracelets or swizzle
sticks, glasses,
tri-color
necklaces, earrings,
rave
sticks and glow
stars that have adhesive on the back.
You may also want to give out some inflatable
football hats for the team to wear so they stand in the crowd. And wrist streamers
will come in handy when dancing in multi-color Mylar. For the cheerleaders, we
have mini-multi-color
batons and tinsel
maracas for them to use on the dance floor.
As a real treat, give out some 2000
glasses (we have 2001,
too). And in case they left their noisemakers at home, why not pass out some lip
whistles, neon
hand clackers and some tambourines
so you can pump up the volume a notch!
I, the Party Girl, have tried to come up with things that are within the
average budget. Adjust here and there, and you'll still have a fabulous
party--I'm sure. Just don't party too hardy--we want you around for the next
chain of events!
For any of the school spirit items listed in bold type, please send email to mail@party411.com. Include which
