Groundhog Day Events
February 2
In case you have nothing to do on Friday, February 2nd, you may want to go to
Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania for the annual Groundhog Day Celebration. The
celebration is from February 1st through the 4th. And it sounds like a winner!
For example, you can follow Punxsutawney Phil's paw prints around town. You
can visit Gobbler's Knob, go to the "official" souvenir shop, take an
art stroll (the town's students paint the store windows!) and enjoy contests,
sleigh rides, old-fashioned kettle korn and more.
The town even has a Community Center Crash Pad sponsored by the Punxsutawney
Area Community Center in the cafeteria. Bring your own sleeping bag. Includes
free admission to Groundhog Day, the movie and refreshments are available for
sale. Maybe all the motel/hotel rooms are taken?!
Highlights include:
February 1:
- Groundhog Day Marriage Ceremonies at Phil's Wedding Chapel witnessed by
a member of the Groundhog Club and presided over by the mayor.
- Signing of a giant postcard asking Phil to see or not to see his shadow.
- The Holden Puppets perform. They are 10-12 foot puppets that will blow
you away!
- A Media Mixer where you can mix with local business people and news
media.
- Annual Groundhog Banquet in the Punxsutawney Area High School Cafeteria.
- Family Fun Night at the Eagles Club.
- An "Under 21 Dance" for those who, I assume, are under 21!
- Community Groundhog Party at the Rooftop Restaurant of the Pantall Hotel
- Showing of Groundhog Day, the movie, starring Bill Murray at the Jackson
Theater.

Prognostication at Sportsman's Park.
- Punxsutawney Phil's official prediction at daybreak (approximately
7:25am).
- An appearance by "Paul Plays it All!" (a man who plays more
than 20 instruments AND the kitchen sink!)
- A Winter Carnival.
- Phil's Birthday Celebration in the hallway of the Civic Complex. Come
celebrate your February 2 birthday with Phil! Cake, punch & coffee.
