Sorry, but I'm not familiar with that tradition.

There is something like that that's done at "quinces" - a celebration that Latin Americans give their 15 year old daughters.

There's also something that's done at "coming out" parties in high society, but I have to admit I'm stumped on this one for a Sweet 16.

Elsewhere on this board, there is an "Ask the Experts" section and there's someone who's called The Etiquette Queen" and she might know.
