I'm also in a wedding this coming May and I've also been elected to host the Stag and Doe. These parties have become increasing popular where I'm from. I think it's to get away from what can become the skankiness of Bachelor's and Bachelorette Parties. It is primarily a time to raise money for the couple. Although, this too has become a little overdone in the past years. Wedding's cost money, it's just a fact of life. As the fundraising side of them can also become inapproriate, the couple I'm hosting it for has opted for a type-of 'engagement barbeque'. The purpise is to celebrate the up-and-coming wedding. We will be selling tickets but it will only be to cover the cost of the party itself. I don't think we'll bother with dj's and whatnot...it'll just be a time for friends to get together and congratulate the couple in a less formal setting. I think it's a nice idea, however, a little unnecessary.

Good luck with the planning!

Christine
