evening gloves

On New Years Eve, my husband and I going to a formal dinner/
dance, but not a stuffy one! Live band, lots of dancing. I have a long
black dress and have bought black evening gloves to go with it. They are right below the elbow.
What is the proper etiquette for wearing evening gloves? Do you leave them on all night? Do you eat with them? Do you
remove them when eating and then put them back on? I don't want to look stupid eating in evening gloves...Help
