Hi Sunshine!

This certainly sounds like a good cause.

Maybe you can do a craft fair where people can either just exhibit their wares to be judged (you can probably get some arts and crafts teachers to judge the items) or set up a fair for people to sell their items. Or have a white elephant fair. It's a great way for people to get rid of their old stuff. Remember, one person's junk is another man's treasure.

Maybe you can have some dances for a youth group or a big band event for some of the older area residents. With today's computers, even a one-man band can have a big band sound and everyone loves to dance!

Hire a local square dance caller. We held one and had everyone from 9 to 90 out there doing a alamande left! They'll usually "teach" the steps in the first half hour or so, so everyone can join in even if they've never done it before.

Bake sales can be fun and a good fundraiser if you want.

If you have an auditorium, there are movies you can rent that can be publicly shown (not from a Blockbuster store which can only be used for private showings). There is a fee, but it's usually only around $100.

It either can be a recently released movie (one that's not currently in the theater but is not available on video just yet for consumer rental) or you can rent a "classic" movie for a lot less.

Maybe you could hold a fashion show using some of the members of your congregation as models. Many specialty and department stores will bring the clothes and a commentator for free. After all, if the participants or audience members like the clothes, they just might buy them!

Hope that helps. Good luck.
