my family does white elephant now at christmas b/c we have grown so much over the years. my brothers- in-law like to buy something that they would want (kind of opposite of a true "white elephant") and then when someone gets their gift, they try to steal it back. usually ends up in chaos and arguing, but it's still a lot of fun!! my family uses a limit of $35 to keep the focus on the little ones, but an office party or otherwise is usually only $10-15. we draw numbers and we only let a gift be stolen 2 times. the 3rd holder is the owner and you can't steal right back if you've just been stolen from. you can only steal on your turn or if your gift has just been stolen, except of course stealing back like i just mentioned. hope this helps and if anyone has more specifics, i'd like to know as well. maybe less chaos this year:) thanks!
