Sounds kinda corny written here but something maybe along those lines would put people at ease. If you could really use things, do not feel compelled to refuse offerings. People will bring everything from flowers or cards, to more elborate gifts. Most people will not feel like they have to spend a ton-it will be genuine mostly token items.
