Can't believe youall are having problems, #1-- have a committee, no one person can do this!! #2 brainstorm, throw out every possible answer. Believe it or not, from the confusion and stupidity, a real idea will come forward. #3, keep it simple-- for Grease, put a 50-60's car on the float and have appropriately dressed students stand around it...dancing to the soundtrack. For general themes you can always use some "beat the tigers" type thing and word play on it with a jungle (cardboard trees and leaves) and have "cave men" who are wearing jersys from the home team chasing the tiger to "beat" him. Get the idea. #4 build the float with the fact in mind that it will probably have to travel a few miles to the location of the parade. An extra nail, staple, glue stick, etc is excellent assurance that it will not be torn up before getting there. #5-- plan on enough time... of you are going to stuff chicken wire it takes a while and wear gloves, or your hands will be raw. And last idea--- if all else fails fake it. The group I assisted for the Christmas parade were the laziest bunch in the world and eventually my one helper and I forgot the trailer and put Grandma, the rocking chair, her 3 children, and a fireplace in the back of a truck, with christmas tree on top of the truck cab. It was only honorable mention, but total time to make it was probably 15 minutes.

Also, get your trailer, truck to pull, people to drive, etc. early as possible and get backups just in case.

In the last three years that I have been involved with a float we won 2 first prizes and one second. This year I promise you we have a winner... Oct 14-SOSU Durant, OK Look for the School Of Business float--- the teachers (yes, teachers)if we can do it you can.
