I paid $6 - $8 each for grass skirts and got them home and figured out I could have made them for next to nothing. Use about 37" of twine for kid-sized, measure 8 1/2" inches from the ends to leave for tying and use raffia for the strands. Fold the raffia strands in half and slip-knot them around the twine (bring the ends up around the twine and through the loop and pull tight). You can lay them out and spray paint them if you want color.
