For the invitation you can use the main picture from the opera as the front cover or use a sheet of music from the opera. Decorate the table with candelabras. use mini x-mas lights on trees and windows. Place dry ice or a small fog machine by the front door. Have the guests dress up in capes, masks and formal wear. You can play music from the opera in the background. For food you can do research on what was popular in that era. Go with high end foods like hen, pheasant, venison, etc. Have the set with your best china and glass wear. In living room you can setup a table with different wines and cheeses (simple & easy on the hostess). You can serve French, English and/or NY cuisine. Choose which theater seating you would prefer or mix or three to create your menu.
