We did a larger picture with the matte. In fact, we bought a beautiful frame with the matte and just removed the glass so that people would know how much room they had to sign on. A friend just used a matted picture and when she put the frame on she lost some signatures. We have the picture proudly displayed in our foyer by the front door for everyone to see! The other thing we had were printed papers that had "A Special Note To S___ From:_____________________ then lines for people to write a note on.The paper is 1/2 of a regular piece of paper and has musical notes in the background, spot lights at the top and CDs on the bottom corners with S__s Bat Mitzvah and the Date in the middle. We had a supply of these at each table along with a pen. It gave people an opportunity to write something after they'd had a little time to think about it. They're going in her scrap book. My husband had her photo album put together within a week of her barmi. He's amazing!
