I can understand the parents being concerned that their children might not be able to rise to the occassion. ( I usually hadto beg and bribe to get my 8 yr old up on the bima for an aliya with my mom.) But what's with the grownups not being honored by your beautiful request? DUH. Get a dear friend to "let them off the hook". I would just nicely tell them that you want them to enjoy the celebration and thought it would be "easier" for them if you gave the reading to someone else. Perhaps even one of your child's classmates.

Less than 2 weeks to go. Can you believe it? No. Keep breathing slowly.
