Re: Need Help....1st time guest at Bat MitzvahPosted by Betty on October 29, 1999 at 11:59:30: In Reply to: Re: Need answers ASAP 1st time to Bat Mitzvah! posted by Betty on October 28, 1999 at 15:35:21: HELP! We are invited to a Bat Mitzvah in early Nov. and I have a couple of questions for the board regarding the gift. First, I am of the Christian faith and am not sure what some of the items mentioned are in the previous post recommended as gifts to give. Is it appropriate for a non jew to give religous gifts or would it not have as much meaning to the receiver? I had a wonderful idea of buying a book for the young lady one is, "Remarkable Jewish Women: Rebels, Rabbis, and Other Women from Biblical Times to the Present," and the other is called "The Journey Home: How Jewish Women Shaped Modern America." I would also include a gift certificate along with the book from her favorite store so she could pick out something more personal. My thoughts were that as she grows up she will really enjoy having a book of this sort in her personal library throughout her adult life and it would encourage her to remain faithful to her heritage. Please let me know if you think this would be and appropriate gift. Also I have not seen anywhere about when to give the gift. Does one bring it to the temple or reception or have it delivered to the home of the young lady as we would do for a Christian wedding? Thanks so much for your help. This board has been so helpful in educating those of us from other religions. Shalom, Betty
