Use books as centerpieces, then give them as tzedakah to local homeless shelters/libraries/hospitals/nursing homes etc.
If you want to epand the theme each table could be a different genre or different author...my nephew did this, and each table had a stack a books tied in a big ribbon - it looked great and was amazingly sensible.
