How to specify dress without confusion.

My daughter is having a mostly kids party. While she doesn't want people in ball gowns, she does want them to wear something dressy. I find that some indicators, such as "dressy casual" and "festive casual" can be ambiguous. Today someone mentioned using "dress to impress". Does anyone have any other ideas?
