I, too, was worried whether the kids would show on the date, which happened to be over a holiday weekend. I enlisted the help of a friend, who called the parents of the kids to see if they needed a ride and to set up car pools. It wasn't obtrusive (me shrilly reminding them that they had sent in the response cards saying they were coming so they had better be there!) and it showed concern and caring that their children be there. It also took the pressure off of those parents who didn't know who was invited, and allowed them to drive 1 out of 4 ways. We had NO no-shows from the kids. Everyone was there, the pressure and worry was off us and it made it more convenient for all the parents of the kids attending. The moral of the story: If someone offers to help, accept graciously and give them this assignment or another you don't have time for.
