Here she goes again, wife of the musician who plays bar mitzvahs and weddings.

Generally they don't expect tips (or if they do they shouldn't). BUT I think the concept of tipping is to reward a job well done above and beyond the call of duty ... so IMHO if your DJ is just fantastic, better than your wildest dreams, just made the party etc., then definitely yes tip him and tell him you'd love to be on his reference list. If he's just "meh," then don't.

My two cents and obviously just my opinion.
