As a parent, I really appreciate getting a follow-up letter that explains when to pick up my child. The formal invitation gives a start time only but it doesn't let anyone know about a pick up time. For that reason alone, I would definitely send them to the kids.
I sent letters to only kids for my first simcha. She had a morning service and an evening party so it was helpful to parents to know what time to pick up at our reform temple and what time from the evening party. My daughter had all kids attend that responded. The adults were a different story. For my son I sent follow ups to everyone invited. I had all adults attend, but 2 kids were no shows. I think it just depends. But I think it is helpful in letting people know what time things are over and also in making sure they have a phone number to call if there has been a change of plans (ie-hopefully, before your final count goes in)
