Survey: What have you found with follow-ups???

Rina and Ash make interesting points in their response to my query about what to include in which mailing ... is it too much work to do a follow-up? And is it worth the effort???

I would love to hear feedback from those of you who have and have not done second mailings (or those of you who have been through two B'nais and perhaps have done one of each) ...

I agree that doing a second mailing strictly for out-of-towners is not worth it, since most of them are relatives and therefore Jewish. I will simply add the hotel info etc. in their initial envelopes and put extra goodies in their hospitality bags.

But what about those of you who have invited a lot of non-Jewish friends or schoolmates of your kids, to whom I'm really aiming the second mailing letter (which by the way is already written thanks to an industrious fewon this board -- I borrowed their format they so kindly posted and adjusted with a few salient details of my own, so all that has to be done is print and send) ...

Those of you that didn't send follow-ups: Were there many unforeseen or avoidable foul-ups, from too many people showing up to kids being improperly dressed, behaved, etc.?

In other words, those of you who did and those of you who didn't, what would you do differently?

She does have a lot of friends who have probably not been to b'nai mitzvahs before. And to be honest I think my husband has a lot of co-workers of which the same can be said. (I have very small family and a handful of coworkers to invite, all of whom, I think, know the drill).

I believe, as I may have said, that most of the folks here DO send follow-up letters, but I've never received one myself because I'm expected to KNOW these things (that said, there was almost a VERY embarrassing situation where I didn't know about my daughter's best friend's tzedaka collection until the day of her reception because it had ONLY been mentioned in the follow-up letter which I didn't get).
