It sounds like this is causing you more stress than enjoyment and that's the last thing you need right now with a baby on the way and a new apartment. My suggestion is to reduce your stress and put an end to the situation by simply telling his family members,

"I appreciate you wanting to throw a baby shower, but it's becoming too overwhelming financially and emotionally. My husband and I need to focus on getting the apartment and getting this baby into the world. I hope you understand and I know you want what's best. For now, I think this is best."
