At my church, we average about 7-8 baby showers a year. For second time moms, we do what we call a diaper pounding. It is basically the same as a shower, but you focus on bringing things like diapers, wipes, baby shampoos & lotions, etc. Because they usually still have the larger items. But when there is such a large age difference between your 8 yr old, and the one you are pregnant with, it makes sense to have a shower for you. It has been so long since you had a baby, that it will be like starting over. Even if you aren't in need of a lot of things, a shower just makes you feel special, even if you don't get a lot of gifts. Just having your loved ones gathered to wish you and your new baby well. I think that your friends should have understood that. Congratulations and I hope that ya'll can work through this.
