50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration - A HIT!!Posted by Christie on December 15, 2000 at 23:59:07: I just wanted to let everyone know that I had visited this web site 6 months before our suprise dinner was actually planned looking for ideas. My parents just celebrated their 50th wedding annivesary. My siblings, and I had them a nice dinner for this celebration. It was alot of work but well worth it to see their faces when we told them what was going on the day before the event. We had a feast. For Dinner we served from Turkey to Cabbage Rolls, 3 different vegetables to 3 different kinds of salads to two different kinds of potatoes. We had 3 kinds of deserts including a 3 tier wedding cake. Our parents never did have any kind of wedding reception when they were married. Wedding cake white on white with white roses and gold leaves - beautiful! We had our dinner at the Church Fellowship Hall in our Community where we attended church for several years. We decorated with white table clothes, gold candles, confetti with the number 50, and balloons - gold and white. For centerpiece decoration on guest tables, we had 2 balloons - 1 gold and 1 white tied to a gold gift bag - medium size. This decoration set everything off. It was beautiful. We lit our candles 30 minutes before everyone arrived. On the family table, which we seated mom and dad, my sibling's and thier spouses with my husband and I setting with them. We setted the grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the table behind us -worked out very well! For centerpiece on our table we had two floating white candles with a two candle centerpiece lit. Very nice - not to much and not to little either. We also had several church friends to come and sing songs. My parents renewed their wedding vows - which was beautiful. We had several old childhood and high school friends of theirs there to help us celebrate. Each one of us, considering their is just 3 of us, said something to mom and dad. Which made it really special. You will definately need kleenexes for everyone. For invitations, my sister and I went to Office Maxx and purchased wedding invitation paper with matching envelopes. Very cheap but beautiful paper and envelopes. Do the invitations yourself - start 3 months early so you don't forget anyone and I suggest hand delivering whatever you can do to postage. You will need the extra money in the end. We did order napkins with their name and wedding date. These were white and letters trimmed in gold - beautiful. Well worth the price. I paid $22.00 for 100 napkins. We got most of our decorations from Big Lots. Some things came from Party City. I went to Wal-mart to buy paper plates - styrofoam, cups, spoons, forks, and knives. I wanted to buy clear plastic plates but couldn't afford them. Have two people in charge of videoing and at least one person doing nothing but taking pictures!! Get lots and lots of pictures of the immediate family whatever you do!!!!!! It was the best thing that my siblings and I could have ever done for our parents!!! IF you are thinking of having your parents a dinner for any wedding anniversary celebration, no matter what you have to do - do it!!!!!!! It is well worth it in the end to see them smile and talk about it for days afterwards!!! If I can help anyone with party planning ideas feel free to contact me - Good luck planning your special dinner!!!!!!
