Since a 50th celebration is a golden one, perhaps you can buy a gold picture frame, or have a special poem framed, go to one of those places that researches a family's name and give them that. Gold candlesticks would be nice. Perhaps a gold water pitcher. (By the way, gold plating works just as well.)

If they're having a party, perhaps you can have the invitation framed for them in gold.
