My sister and I are also planning a surprise 25th anniversary for our parents for September 22, 2000. Very close now and on a tight budget. Here's what we're working on. 1. Printed up our own invitations (allowed us to make them more person and add some cute stuff to them). 2. We have six children in our family and we spoke to them all and have an agreement to split this special occasion an equal 6 ways (regardless of marriage, income, etc.) After all, our parents gave a lot to us growing up and deserve this. 3. One sister has a large enough house and yard and has volunteered her home for the party. We are shopping now for reasonably priced decorations (some good sites on the web for ordering these too) and are going fairly simple. Silver PAPER plates, cups, napkins (will have a few embroidered for a keepsake), etc. (thought about matchbooks - but a waste of money), balloons and streamers. 4. We've set a modest menu of cheese, crackers, sausage, chips, dips, sandwich stuff - snack type foods, punch and soft drinks. If anyone wants alcohol they can bring their own. We are all pitching in, going to the grocery store and making this ourselves. The fun we will have as siblings spending an entire day together decorating and preparing food will bring back many childhood memories and add to the special feeling of the evening. FOR GIFTS - All 6 of us have gone together and had a wonderful portrait together done for Mom and Dad and framed it in a beautful silver frame - not an expensive gift, but priceless with love; we've (hand) made a small scrap book in which each of us and written down special memories and lessons we've learned from our parents. And finally, we are having a blanket (afghan, throw-type blanket) embroidered with their names in the middle and then surrounding their names with all of their 6 children and our families. Sort of like a family tree thing. this also has been inexpensive. With a total of 25 names embroidered the cost came to $150.00. Hope some of this helps. Best wishes and good luck.
