Not sure about that exact day, but in 1953: Ian Flemming's book, Casino Royal, was number 1. Arthur Miller's play, The Crucible was on Broadway, as was the musical, Kismet. Some songs that went #1 during the year were: "Doggie in the Window", "I Believe", "Baubles, Bangles, and Beads", "Ebb Tide", "Stanger in Paradise" and "I Love Paris". The first news stories connected cigarettes to cancer that year. The Yankees won the World Series for the 5th consecutive year in a "subway war" with Brooklyn Dodgers. Queen Elizabeth II was crowned that year.
