I too am planning a 50th - but I'm doing a surprise party so it's a bit different circumstances. My thoughts on ringing in the new year at the event would be - DO IT!! I think it would be great fun to incorporate a "time" element into the party. I don't know if you've ever seen the show but there is a 50th anniversary episode of a foodtv show called Savoir Faire. If you go to the web and look up that show and scan through the event pages Nick M. has GREAT party ideas for a 50th anniversary.
