My sister and I had our parent's 50th on Friday night. It was BEAUTIFUL. They knew about us having a party but knew none of the details. We met them at the car to tell them about their renewal of vows. (They never had a church wedding). During the ceremony, my middle daughter (8yrs old) did an interpretive dance while a friend sang Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me" (a song that is special to my mom). Then after the ceremony we moved to the reception. We decorated with gold and white balloons, floating candles were in dishgarden centerpieces inside of fir wreaths with gold wire ribbon bows and red berries. The cake (bought from Walmart Supercenter but tasted wonderful) was three tiers decorated with beautiful red silk flowers and silk leaves with a touch of gold glitter on both. We also had a simple "Happy 50th Anniversary" banner on the back wall. Our dinner consisted of Chicken Breast, Ham, Rice, Mushroom Gravy, Corn, Green Beans, Coleslaw, and Rolls w/Butter (very simple but delicious) We hired a chef to do the cooking but we bought our own food (My husband works for Sysco Food Services in Florida). During the reception we did the 1952 Facts, A speech telling about the way they met until present, a video with the following songs (Make Memories with Me by Lee Ann Womack w/Mark Chestnutt for the early years, Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle for the children and grandchildren pictures, and Look At Us by Vince Gill for the Retirement Years), then we did the Toast and Cake, then the oldest granddaughter (11yrs) told about when they became grandparents and read a poem, then the Love Kit and last but not least, the presentation of the Family Gift. We did a mock Wheel of Fortune Game (my mom is an regular watcher) that spelled out Four Night Cruise To Bahamas which is what we gave them. The 5yr old granddaughter presented them a Cruise Kit while the (2)3yr old granddaughters wore signs that read "Bon Voyage" and "Bring us back some T-shirts". We received alot of compliments. Thanks again to this board for a wealth of ideas. I will try to stick around to help out future "inductees" to the Anniversary party "Club".
