Kathleen, I understand where you are coming from...and there are definitely two sides to requesting monetary gifts...be it an anniversary or wedding! Here's a previous post that might encourage you...yes, you would have to compose something to include with your invites, or you'll be explaining the idea over the phone a LOT! Posted by kelly on June 14, 2001 at 00:43:33: We were trying to come up with an idea that people could give my parents well wishes and have fun too and my brother came up with this and it was a HUGE success. On the invitations we put that since it was our parents GOLDEN anniversary to please bring a gold dollar coin in instead of a present to throw into the wishing well. We took a small childs pool and covered it with black plastic, filled the bottom with a few rocks and plants. Decorated around the outside of pool with all different types of plants. ( the woodsy look) Then after the toast the guests had the opportunity to wish the couple well wishes and throw the coins into the wishing well. There were some who threw in one coin and many that threw in 50 coins and fun was had by all. It was an easy gift for the guests and there was much laughter and tears over all the wonderful wishes. It was a sucess and my parents made out like bandits! haha It was easy to make and clean up and everyone really like the idea. I think this method allows folks to give as little or as much as they choose...not like having to write a check and feeling uncomfortable about the amount. You can easily modify this all to be your wishing well...doesn't have to be the pond...but it sure sounds cute...you could even have a couple of GOLD fish!!! Let a child take 'em home after the party! Hope this helps...and after you've wrestled with the million details of planning your special celebration...you'll hardly remember the labor involved...just like birthin' a baby...selective memory loss helps you focus on the wonder of the final product...FAMILY! Best wishes, Ditzy
