I am sending you the poem we used in our invitation and also the one my husband and I used as a reply to the toast given by our eldest son. (My apologies to anyone who may be offended by the poems - they are a bit risky but did cause a lot of laughter at our party). If they are suitable, please do feel free to use them and alter then to your taste and circumstances but they may give you something to start with. We had lots of fun sitting around and trying to make them up and getting words etc to rhyme. (1) Invitation poem 25 years of married bliss That's what it should have been With kids, and pets and bills galore If only we had seen! But with 20-20 hindsight, What could be both have done? Said "Thank you for the one night stand, It was a lot of fun!" It hasn't all been misery It wasn't all that bad There was that day in '76 And what a time we had! We do hope you can join us To help us celebrate And make the 13th of October Another memorable date. (2) Reply to speech (Jean) Let me tell you a tale of a fine young male, And his name was .................. He was tall, he was strong and his hair was long, Those days it was the look. (G) He met a young girl, in a bit of a whirl, And wooed her with fervent ardour, With her big bust, he was filled with lust - With a certain thing getting harder! (G) This man of precision, now made a decision, This woman shall be my wife, So came the great day the young man did say With you I can share my life (J) The lady she replied, "I'll be your bride I don't want any other, But I can talk for hours about my flowers And even longer 'bout my mother!" (J) This man and bride - both filled with pride, 'Twas truly a day to enjoy He was handsome and gay, but not in that way - A fine upstanding young boy. (G) Their troth they did plight and day passed to night But now is the time for discretion But as you all know for me that's 'no go' 'Twas a night of unbridled passion. (J) As she lay on her side, that innocent bride She began to drool For that young rapscallion was hung like a stallion - Or was it Muffin the Mule? (G) And so through the years, with laughter and tears, Our fortunes both up and down But hard work and a smile have made it worthwhile Our troubles we try to drown (G) So this little ditty - which is oh so whitty Is now becoming a chore, 'Cos I can make these rhymes only so many times It's starting to be a bore. (J) And so, our good friends, my story here ends Without you we could'nt have lasted. From G... and I, here's mud in your eye And let's get thoroughly plastered.
