I would make the exact same suggestions as Ditzy. A trio string quartet would be very elegant. At our parents reception we had a fiddler, and although there is a difference it was very beautiful. We also had quite an elegant evening, the dress was quite formal. One thing you will notice though is that once the supper and program is over, your folk's will want to mingle with their guests. If its anything like my folks, many people they had not seen for quite some time came and it was very important to my parents to enjoy their company.
