We do a thieves party. Everyone brings a gift, not something they bought, but something around the house that, while they may not need/use it anymore, might still be useful or wanted by someone else. You wrap it up nicely and bring it to the party.

Guests pick a number from 1 - whatever the amount of people who brought gifts. When all have arrived and gifts are placed wherever, then the person who drew number 1 goes and picks a gift. Then person number has the option of picking a wrapped gift or "stealing" the gift that has already been opened. And so on. If your gift is stolen from you, you have the option of picking another wrapped gift or "stealing" a gift from another player, but not the gift that was stolen from you. The overall idea of the party is that the person with the highest number has the best chance to get the best gift because that person can "steal" from all the opened gifts or, if desired, take the last wrapped gift.

It is actually a lot of fun - we look forward to it every year. And often times, the same gifts get recycled year after year.

Good Luck and have a great party!
