Hi Rosie,

I tried answering your email message to me and it would not go through to your email. I decided to post my answers here. I really hope you get this. Hi Rosie,

The 1st thing to remember is that there are no right or wrong answers to your questions. Your celebration should be your special day and you should plan it the way you want it to be...well as long as your parents agree...lol Here are my answeres to your questions.

We would like to know how much you can ask sponsers to donate?

At most of the quinceañeras that I have worked with people are asked to sponsor individual things. For example you might ask a cousin to sponsor your guest book. For something more expensive such as the hall rental you might ask a number of people to cosponsor an equal amount. If you hall is 1200 divided by 6 sponsors at $200 each. You would have to be the judge of who would be willing to sponor at a higher amount. The important thing is to ask early and get everything together well in advance of payment deadlines. Always be prepared with backup ideas in case you have sponsors that back out. Ask special people to sponsor your special gifts such as the crown and other gifts to be presented in the church if you are having a church ceremony.

Does there have to be 14 girls and guys in the celebration?

14 is the traditional number to represent logically all the years of your life leading to your 15th birthday, but that is not set in stone. I have seen many variations. 7 girls and boys, 14 girls only, 14 boys only. I have seen the age of the girls each be of the different ages starting as little as barely walking up to the age of 15. Again there is no right or wrong answer. The most important thing to remember is to choose your court early and get a commitment from their parents that they will be participating. There is nothing more stressful than having to pick a new set of girls a month before your quince. Make arrangements to purchase your dresses at least 3 months before your quince if buying them already made. 4-6 months if having them made. If you are having the girls dresses made, never let the final pick up of the dresses be closer than 2 weeks before your quince. Some of the worst problems I have encountered is having to alter dresses with lots of pins right before the Mass starts because the dress was just picked up and didn't end up fitting right. Once someone is committed by putting money down on a dress they are less likely to back out.

How much should we plan to spend per person if we invite 100 people?

This question is not easily answered. I recommend that you decide 1st of all what you would like to serve. Then call around to different caters in your area to see what their prices are. In general you are safe assuming how much that usual plate costs when you go out and buy one yourself to eat and them multiplying it by your guest count. For example if you are serving a barbeque chicken plate which is popular to serve here in TX, normally that plate would cost you about $7.00 with all the trimings and a drink. Multiplied buy 100 guests $700. You can really save money when you self cater, if you have a very industrious family. We self catered my daughters quince. Paid a restaurant to only cook and slice our meat and we did the rest, but that takes a lot of work and cooperation. Your cake price can also vary from one bakery to another, most wedding or quince cakes can range from $1.50 a slice to over $3.00 depending on how fancy you want it. Shop around and ask around for cake makers that make specialty cakes out of their own homes. You can get great deals that way. My daughters was a simply beautiful cake decorated with lots of marroon colored roses and after the cake was eaten we took the roses and made a heart shaped wreath out of them that she now has in her room as a reminder of that special cake.

Where are you from Rosie? If you are lucky enough to live anywhere near the mexican border, you can find lots of nice things at the bridal/quince specialty shops in any of the bordering mexican towns. Here in Tx quinces are so popular that there are many specialty stores right here in the city I live in, San Antonio. Also there is a flea market close to our city that has many specialty shops that sell dresses and items for decorations etc. Great bargains.

My daughers quince which was 2 years ago in January 2000 was great. We invited about 300 people and managed to stay within a $3000 budget.

Good luck to you and your family and may God Bless you on your 15th Birthday!

Rosemary
