hi, we gave our parents a 50th (formal sit down dinner) and this is what we did:

1 - we had mom and dad take a glamour shot (any mall)
2 - had wallet size picture made from the glamour shot and put it on card stock with a thank you message to all the guest and passed these cards out during the reception hour. (these cards were passed out by the grandchildren)
3 - an easle was set up in the reception area with the glamour shot portrait for people to view as they came in.
4 - once the guest were seated, the bandleader announced the entrance of the children who came in and stood to the side. then the grandchildren were individually announced as they entered. they stood to the side as well. then right before the grand entrance of our parents, a short story was told of how they met.
5 - separate table for grandchildren. each grandchild made a presentation to their grandparents during the dinner hour (a song, a poem, etc.).
6 - parents table was for them and their children with their children's spouses.
7 - decorations on the main table was a floral arrangement with a picture of our parents when they were 19 (when they met).
8 - decorations for other tables, pictures of years gone by with different friends and family
members along with florals.

i hope this helps a little - let me know and good luck to you.
