My husband and I are planning our 2nd 50th anniversary party in the last year. Last September was his parents and this November is mine.

I made his parents a memory book by sending pages to be filled out along with the invitation. This was a surprise and went over real well. It took me three months to make the book and was worth every ounce of effort I put into it. I.m getting ready to start on one for my parents now.

As for the first party, it was held in a hall on puget sound and was a wonderful day. We hired a photographer and caterer. I did all the floral arrangements, their granddaughter played her harp, we had 2 tables of photos over the last 50 years, a beautiful cake that adorned the center of the room, and all had a great time. My in-laws loved it.

For my parents anniversary we will be holding a sit down dinner at the military officers club since my dad is retired military. My daughter is into music and tv production so her Jazz band is going to play during dinner and her friends are going to produce a video about my parents courtship and their life together. My parents only knew each other 4 days before they were engaged. After dinner we will have dancing to a big band. There will be an open bar and a friend of mine is a pastry chef and right now we are working on the design of the wedding cake. I will also be doing all the flowers for this reception and making all the invitations by hand. There's a lot of work going into this but well worth it. Being married 50 years is really something incredible. If your artisticly talented you can really do a spectacular celebration on a spectacular budget. Remember, what ever you do, if you put your heart into it every one will love it.
