A Party411.com Corporate Event Theme Party

Ideas, Invitations, Party Supplies, Games and More For Your Corporate Event

Love Boat Cruise

A Cruise Ship Corporate Event

Not the Love Boat, but almost…can we really forget about Gopher, Charo, and the Love Boat Mermaids? Sail the seas just like the Pacific Princess with this cruise ship themed corporate event, perfect for a company outing, appreciation dinner, retirement party, or dinner dance.

Cruise Ship Party Invitations

Select invitations that match the mood you are trying to create. If it’s a black tie affair you’ll want to use something more formal, however if you want to keep it classy casual consider something entirely different. You’ll also want to consider the crowd. Is the company young or is this for a retirement party or a formal dance for the executives.

Here are some fun options to get your guests ready to cruise.

  • If the whole company is invited and you want to keep the invitation paperless, consider an online interactive invitation created by the Graphics and IT departments. Have a picture of a cruise ship floating in the ocean with the name of the ship as the company name. Place a captain on the deck throwing lifesavers. Each time he throws a lifesaver the participant has to click on it to get a copy of the invitation.

  • Design invitations in the shape of a cruise ship or anchors and attach lifesavers (the candy) to each invitation.

  • Or, make it look like a travel brochure with a cruise ship and have it say “U.S.S XYZ Company/Organization of the Seas Invites You on a Love Boat Cruise. ”

The Pier (Welcome Area)

Greet guests in cruise ship style with a life preserver arch and lots of balloons in red, white and blue. Perfect for a photo-op.

Have a few people dress up as the Love Boat characters, Captain Stubing, Isaac the Bartender Isaac the Bartender, and Julie McCoy, Cruise Director.

As guests walk in hand out shell necklaces shell necklaces to the ladies and nautical hats to the gents. As people enter, play the Love Boat theme song.

Place a sign at the entrance that reads, "Welcome to the U.S.S. XYZ Company/Organization’s Love Boat Cruise Party.” Use lots of directional signage to guide everyone through the party, "This way to…" Purser. Galley. Lounge. Casino. Sun Deck. Golf deck. Swimming Pool.” Make the signs look like the anchors from the Love Boat with hearts.

Ballroom Decorations

Any episode of the Love Boat will get you inspired. You can sometimes catch a glimpse on the TV Land channel. Depending on where you are hosting the party, you’ll want to set up a dance floor, bar and buffet area, and tables.

Decorate the entire room with a 50' or Ocean Blue or Tropical Sunsets scene setter with whale and dolphin cutouts and a few seagulls (Make sure they don’t steal the food!). Include lots of balloons and fresh flowers throughout. Now we’re cruising!

Tables

Use crisp white linens and blue skirts, crystal glasses, white plates and silver chargers. For centerpieces, place ice buckets with champagne or wine and silver balloons coming off. Then, use shimmery cellophane to fill the bucket. Surround the centerpieces with assorted sea shells and lit white votive candles.

For a real classy touch, place chocolate U.S.S. XYZ Company/Organization’s Love Boat Cruise "charge cards" around the centerpieces. (This mirrors the credit cards—instead of cash—that is now used on cruise ships.) These could then also be favors that guests could take home.  Interested? Let us know, and we can get your favors.

Another approach is to throw fishnets over the tables along with assorted sea shells.  Use a life preserver as a centerpiece in the center place a vase filled with fresh white and yellow flowers.

Bar Area

  • In the original Life Boat a lot of time was spent at the bar, as far as this Party Girl remembers. Decorate the bar area in sleek style with lots of votive candles, fresh flower bouquets, and serve lifesavers candies in silver dishes.

  • Cut out waves out of large blue paper and cover with blue cellophane then attach to the bar and hang string lights behind so it sparkles.

  • Serve martinis, champagne, cocktails and other fun drinks.

Buffet

For the food area, use balloon bouquets at either end. Fill Giant Sea Shells with rolls, silver ware, or desserts.

Other Decorations

Create a 6’ by 8’ color mural of people waving goodbye from shipside. People need to be waving hands or handkerchiefs, laughing or crying, etc. Create a cutout of a crew—captain, purser, first lieutenant, chef, shipmates, etc. For the faces, use enlarged photos of your CEO and top management team, or the event planning committee.

Entertainment

Depending on the crowd either have a band or DJ playing chill cruise music for dancing or hire a steel drum band to really make you feel like your going to the islands. Play a few episodes of the Love Boat and maybe have a Love Boat trivia contest. If you are planning this party as an appreciation event, take time to thank your employees for all of their hard work.

For a retirement party, you may want to have a few people come up and say a few things about the retiree. If this is a company outing and you have found a boat to throw the party on, consider some fun party games at our Party Game Guide.

Cruise Ship Party Favors

Perfect favors are personalized candy bars equipped with U.S.S. XYZ Company/Organization’s Love Boat Cruise and the year. Or give out personalized wine or shot glasses for everyone to take home filled with lifesavers of course.

Cheerio! The Party Girl!
