Crazy White Elephant Gift Exchange

  • Two dice
To Play:
  • Have your guests put their presents under the tree and when everyone’s ready, tell everyone to grab a present of their choice.
  • Let the guests sit in a circle and unwrap their gifts.
  • Now grab the dice, have them roll the dice one at a time in the circle. Once someone rolls a snake eyes, they have the option of keeping their gift or swapping with someone else. That person keeps their choice and is then out of the game.
  • The game continues until the last person has picked their gift.

  • Then, choose one person to roll the dice while the other players gather in a circle.
  • The first player must put on the gloves and begin unwrapping the multi-layered prize.  This will be both difficult and funny for the player due to the bulky gloves!
  • While the first player is unwrapping, the person with the dice is continuously rolling. When he or she rolls doubles, the present and gloves are passed to the next person until doubles are rolled again.
  • The passing continues until the prize is finally unwrapped. The final person to unwrap the gift wins and keeps the prize!

Christmas Song Pictionary
Ingredients:
  • Scraps of paper (with Christmas songs)
  • Timer
  • Hat
  • Dry erase board
  • Dry erase markers
To Play:
  • This fun twist on Pictionary will have everyone on the edge of their seats! Separate players into teams of 2-3.  One member from the team to go first must pick a Christmas song from the hat without showing the song to his or her team members.
  • Set one minute on the timer, and without talking, the player must draw clues on the dry erase board so their other team members can guess the song.
  • If the other team members guess the song, that team receives a point, and the next team now has a chance to play. Play a total of three rounds, and whoever has the most points at the end wins!
  • Try some of these song titles: Deck the Halls, O! Christmas Tree, Silver Bells, Jingle Bells, White Christmas, Carol of the Bells, Away in a Manger, The Christmas Song, Ding Dong Merrily On High, Do You Hear What I Hear?, The First Noel, Good King Wenceslas, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Joy to the World, Jingle Bell Rock, Santa Baby, The Little Drummer Boy, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, The Twelve Days of Christmas, Winter Wonderland

Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest
Ingredients:

To Play:
  • Before your Christmas party even starts, make sure to tell guests to wear their ugliest Christmas sweaters on the invitation.  Say on the invite that there will be an ugly sweater contest in order to bring out the competitive spirit in your guests.
  • After the food and drinks are devoured, host a runway show!  Play some “strut your stuff” music, like “I’m Too Sexy” and assign three judges (who aren’t participating) to rank the awfulness of each outfit.
  • Have judges vote for “Ugly Sweater,” “Uglier Sweater,” and “Ugliest Sweater.”  Don’t forget to hand out gold, silver, and bronze medals for the top three winners.

Find Your Christmas Carol
Ingredients:
  • Slips of paper with Christmas carols on them (two slips needed for one song)
  • Basket or hat
To Play:
  • First, begin with an even number of players.  Put an equal number of papers with carols on them in a hat or basket. (There should be two slips for each song.)
  • Players choose a slip from the basket, and begin humming their carol.  They must find their “partner,” the person who is humming the same tune.
  • When partners find each other, they have to shout “Merry Christmas!” to let everyone know they’ve won!
  • TIP: Use easily recognizable carols for this game, such as Silent Night, White Christmas, Jingle Bells, and Frosty the Snowman.

Christmas Kiss Relay
Ingredients:
  • A pair of thick snow mittens for each team of four
  • Two bowls for each team
  • A bag of Hershey Kisses
  • Timer
To Play:
  • Divide players into teams of four, and have one bowl full of kisses on one side of the room, and an empty bowl on the other for each team.
  • Set a timer for three minutes.  The first player must put on a pair of heavy mittens and take a kiss from one bowl to the next.  When the first player returns, they have to take off the mittens and give them to the next one in line.
  • Players continue doing this until time runs out, and the team with the most number of kisses in their bowl wins!

Crown the King
Ingredients:
  • King’s paper crowns with a Christmas word on each crown
To Play:
  • This fun game uses a British tradition (king’s paper crowns) in a way that will get everyone laughing!  First, write a Christmas word on the front of each paper crown (i.e. Santa, snowman, ornament, present, eggnog).
  • Give each player a crown, but tell them not to look at their words.
  • After putting on their crowns (the word must face forward), players have to figure out what the word on their crown is, but there’s a catch.  They can only figure out their words by asking a fellow player one yes or no question about their word at a time, then they must move on to another player.
  • The first person to accurately guess the word on his or her crown wins!  This game can be modified for Christmas carols, too!

christmas tree dress up
Ingredients:
  • Green crepe paper
  • Plastic ornaments
  • Bows and ribbon
  • Garland/Tinsel
  • Timer
To Play:
  • Divide players into teams of three, and have one person be a “Christmas Tree” in each group.
  • Set the timer for five minutes.  In that time, the other two players must “decorate” the designated “Christmas Tree” with green crepe paper, plastic ornaments, bows, ribbon, and garland.
  • Stop players after five minutes, and have the trees strut their stuff on a runway.
  • Have judges give awards for the best trees. A fun way to do this is based on the price of different types of actual Christmas trees.  “Scotch Pine Award” for third place (inexpensive tree), “Douglas Fir” for second place (moderately priced tree), and “White Spruce” for first place (expensive tree).  Give a sympathy award for the worst team; title the prize “The Charlie Brown Christmas Tree Award.”

Dress the Snowman
Ingredients:
  • 1 roll of toilet paper for each team
  • 1 carrot for each team
  • Hats/Scarves/Mittens
To Play:
  • Similar to the Decorate the Christmas Tree game above, teams of three must decorate one of their team members like a snowman.
  • Have players roll the “snowman” in toilet paper, put on hats, mittens, and scarves, and finish the look off with a carrot in the mouth.
  • This game differs, however, because the first team to finish their snowman wins!  Feel free to award prizes, though, for the best and worst snowmen.

Christmas Cranium Cartoons
Ingredients:
  • Paper plates
  • Permanent markers
  • A picture of a Christmas living room (like this one)
To Play:
  • Pass out a paper plate and marker to each player.  Choose one person to run the game, and give them a printout of the Christmas living room picture.
  • Tell all of the other participants to put the plate on top of their heads.  The person running the game must then describe the picture to the players (a fireplace with a fire on the left hand side with two Christmas cards and candles on top; a Christmas tree on the right hand side with ornaments, garland, and a bright star on top; etc, etc, etc).
  • While the picture is described, players must draw it while the plate is on top of their heads.
  • This silly game results in some pretty ridiculous pictures, but the player with the best (and most accurate) drawing wins!

Christmas Guess Who
Ingredients:
  • Childhood Christmas pictures
  • Garland and clothespins
  • Answer sheet and pens
To Play:
  • On your invitations, tell guests to bring Christmas photos of themselves as children.  In the picture, they may be opening presents on Christmas morning or sitting on Santa’s lap at the mall.
  • When guests arrive, collect their pictures (make sure their names are on the back), number them, and attach them to a garland suspended on the mantel with clothespins.
  • On a numbered answer sheet, have friends and family guess who’s who.  The player with the most correct answers wins!

Christmas Bell Pass
Ingredients:
  • A chair for each player
  • Bell
To Play:
  • Have participants arrange their chairs in a circle, and pick an “It” person to sit in the middle.
  • The “It” must sing a Christmas carol of their choice out loud with their eyes closed. (Jingle Bells, White Christmas, or Frosty the Snowman would work well.)
  • Meanwhile, the players on the outside of the circle must pass a bell from person to person.
  • The “It” can choose at any time to end the carol, yelling “Stop!”  He or she must then guess which person has the bell. If he or she guesses correctly, the person who has the bell is the new “It”.  If the player guesses incorrectly, he or she must stay in the middle for another round.

Stocking Guessing Game
Ingredients:
  • Stocking
  • Assortment of stocking stuffers and other items (ornament, chocolate bars, stapler, pens, etc.)
  • Paper and pens
To Play:
  • Fill a stocking with an assortment of stocking stuffers and other items (such as office supplies), and seal the stocking by folding it over or stapling it shut.
  • Pass the sealed stocking among players, allowing them to feel what is inside of it. Then, on a piece of paper, have each player write down what they think is inside of the stocking. (Make sure they keep their answers secret!)
  • After everyone is done writing down their answers, open the stocking and pull out each item.  Have players check off all the items they guessed correctly.
  • The player with the most correct guesses wins, and receives the stocking filled with presents as a prize!

Penguin Relay Race
Ingredients:
  • Filled balloons
  • Orange cones
To Play:
  • Have participants get into relay teams of four.  For each team, set up two cones 15-20 feet apart.
  • For this relay, each player must put a balloon between their knees and waddle down to one cone, go around the cone, and come back. The first person must pass the balloon to the next team member before he or she can go.
  • The first team to have all four members complete the relay wins, but if a team member drops the balloon, that person must start back at the beginning.

Christmas Memory Game
Ingredients:
  • Large tray
  • Christmas items (ornaments, cookies, ribbon, decorations, bows, etc.)
  • Paper and pens
  • Timer
To Play:
  • On a tray, organize an assortment of Christmas items (try to get 15-20 items on the tray).
  • Have players group around a table.  Put the tray on the table for 15-20 seconds, and tell players to memorize as many of the items as they can.
  • Remove the tray, and pass out paper and pens.  Players have one minute to write down as many of the items as they can remember.
  • The player with the most correct items wins!  Make sure to give the winner a fun prize as a reward.

Rudolph’s Antlers
Ingredients:
  • A pair of pantyhose for each player
  • A bag of balloons
To Play:
  • Give each player a pair of pantyhose, and a pile of unfilled balloons.
  • Players must blow up the balloons, tie them off, and stuff the balloons in each leg of the pantyhose until the legs are completely full.
  • The player must then put the pantyhose on his or her head, so the balloon legs are “antlers.”
  • The first player to successfully do so wins!  Make sure to award a Rudolph themed prize. A red light up nose would be perfect!

Snowman Building Contest
Ingredients:
  • A large yard with freshly fallen snow
  • A container filled with hats, mittens, and scarves
  • Carrots
  • Timer
To Play:
  • Divide players into groups of three, and give them fifteen minutes to build a snowman.
  • This game is a lot of fun because it becomes a fight for resources.  Teams must build faster and faster to get the best snow, best mittens and hats, and the best sticks for hands.
  • If it comes to it, begin allowing teams to start sabotaging each other’s snowmen (as long as it doesn’t become all out destruction).
  • Give awards for the “Fattest Snowmen,” “Best Dressed Snowman,” as well as an award for the team who completes their snowman the fastest.

Find Santa
Ingredients:
  • Stuffed Santa
  • Christmas candy
To Play:
  • This fun game for the kiddos will all have the hunting for Santa!
  • In a closed room (like a basement or play room), hide a small stuffed Santa.
  • Let the kids in the room, and the first child to find Santa wins a small prize! (Christmas Candy would work best.)
  • Play this game again and again until everyone has won!
