hey all... i am nearly 32weeks along and my mum is wanting to throw me a baby shower... one problem... neither of us have ever been to one! any suggestions/ideas would be great.. like good games to play.. any cute food ideas.. i dont have friends with children if that makes a difference to the suggestions.. oh.. and do the 'men' always have to be away.. or is that a choice? lol....

I would start with choosing a theme.  Do you have a favorite color, animal or cartoon character?  Once you choose a theme, you can base a lot of your planning around that.  For instance, I threw a shower for my sister, and she wanted "Classic Pooh" to be the theme.  I decorated the head table with a tablecloth, tableware, party favors, cake and centerpiece (all with classic pooh designs).  For the guests tables, I chose 1 pastel color for each table.  We had pooh streamers and baloons everywhere.
For the games, we played the following:
Who knows mommy best? - Just have your mom write about 20 questions about you and see how many the guests can answers.
How big is mommy's stomach? - Have the guests guess how big your stomach is.  After everybody writes down their answer, measure your stomach.  Whoever guesses the correct measurement (or whoever comes closest) wins.
And definitely play the "Don't say baby" game that sister metions.  It's really fun.
For the food, my family and friends love soul food, so that's what we had.  But you can do fun things like pink and white cupcakes (if you're having a girl), and blue and white for a boy.  You can serve pink or blue punch also.
There are so many things you can do at a baby shower, and your options are limitless.

that's a good idea.  Or, since yellow is a unisex baby color, you can use yellow and white, or pink, yellow and blue.  I once went to a shower where the colors were pink, yellow, baby blue, and lavender, and the decorations were really nice.

There are lots of ideas you can choose from...that's both good and bad...try to zero in on something you really like... a really nice theme that goes the setting, your personality, and what you feel you baby would like .  When i was planning my sisters baby shower a year ago...i used the mod mom theme...got mod mom plates, cups, and got a diaper cake that was mod mom themed too
