Rebecca asked:

Occasion: new year's eve
I am having a New Year's Eve party for about 15 people. Starts about 9pm. Probably doing light food/hors d'oeurvres. Would like some ideas for "entertainment" About 15 people and not everyone knows everyone and is a fairly mellow bunch. Any thoughts on how to jazz up the party?

The Party Girl's advice is:

Go to the gamegirl site and look at dinner party, office party and housewarming games. Surf some of the others also.

Amber asked:

Occasion: New Years
What games can we play? Does Gestures sound good?

The Party Girl's advice is:

What is Gestures? Look at the gamegirl site and surf some of the categories for good games. Mystery parties and scavenger hunts are always run.

Alyse asked:

Occasion: New Year's Party
What do we need to do at the party? Games? Movie? What else?

The Party Girl's advice is:

Go to www.oriental.com for great decorations and hats, horns, etc. Look at the gamegirl site for ideas (see teen games, bar/bat mitzvah games, mystery party games)

Emma asked:

Occasion: millennium party
I AM REALLY stuck for ideas of what to wear to a fancy dress party. My partner and I have recently been asked to a fancy dress party with lots of our friends, and the theme is films and famous people. We haven't got a lot of money to spend on extravagant costumes, but want to look like we made an effort. we want to go to the party dressed as a duo but are completely stuck for ideas. Have you got any suggestions?

The Party Girl's advice is:

You could go as Laurel and Hardy, Gable and Monroe, Sonny and Cher or Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Not hard to put together if you get creative. Don't forget places like used clothing shops for stuff.

Jenelle asked:

Occasion: New Years Eve
I am trying to think of something fun and exciting to do at my party on New Years Eve. I would love some ideas. Thanks Jenelle

The Party Girl's advice is:

Surf the gamegirl site, especially the teen games and bar/bat mitzvah categories. Look at www.oriental.com for great decorations and favors.

Debbie asked:

Occasion: millennium new years party I'm going to
I would like to know what to dress up like from the 60's they are giving prizes for best costume

The Party Girl's advice is:

Go as one of the Beetles or as Mick Jagger. It's always fun to dress as the other sex.

Quin asked:

Occasion: new years
ok, I'm 14 yrs. and a freshman (along with all of the people attending the party) and other than your usual teenage "dancing, loud music, kissing, conversing, hanging" bit, I wanted some other stuff to do. Me being your typical teenager, and just out of middle school, I'm still in that stage of really not wanting to look like a "dork" so what are some games you would recommend? board, visual, food games, anything really. Just something that would fly

The Party Girl's advice is:

There are a lot of ways to go. Look at the gamegirl site under the teen games category and a few others. Blow up a picture of Santa or Father Time and play a game of Pin the Part. One good game is the boxed mystery games that are available in book stores.

Danielle asked:

Occasion: Christmas
What should I do at my party? What should the decorations be? What should I do to convince my parents to let me have the party?

The Party Girl's advice is:

You really waited too long to write about a party for tomorrow. There is a great millennium theme on the party site. As for convincing your parents, I can't do that for you. I'm not have the party.

Melissa asked:

Occasion: Advice
Hi. Thanks for your horrible advice on suggestions for an 80s themed party. You told me the 80s were boring and to pick a different decade?? Whatever! The party I threw was incredible! We had posters of 80s super heroes and movie actors and singers. We put 3D glasses at every table and had a Pac-man video game (rented) next to the buffet table. The DJ played only 80s music and people came dressed for the theme (one guy made a huge transformer costume). So next time instead of telling people asking for your advice to "pick another decade," try using your brain a little to help them - isn't that why you offer your help?

The Party Girl's advice is:

Sometimes I have "off" days and sometimes I have "off" letters. Guess you hit one of those. Your party sounds like lots of fun. Sorry you had to think of it all yourself.

kim asked:

Occasion: children's new year's eve party
What are some cool new year's eve games for kids? Also, some good favors?

The Party Girl's advice is:

You have a large range of age here. You probably can't get the 11 yr. olds interested in the same things as the 5 year olds unless it's a movie. You could play Pin the Part on Baby New year and supply the parts. Go to www.oriental.com for great favors and decorations.

Charles asked:

Occasion: Millennium Party for the Kids
Help!! I'm having a millennium party in my new house. I'm having about 40-50 family and friends. My concern is what to do with the children. We decided to fix up the garage for the adults and make that the party room w/ music, a bar, disco ball etc. We need to figure out how to entertain the kids w/out them wrecking our new house. I don't want to seem like I'm overly protective of my house and make my family and friends feel awkward about having a good time. Any ideas?

The Party Girl's advice is:

I don't know the ages of the kids. Look at the gamegirl site for some ideas for the different age groups.

ELLEN asked:

Occasion: Millennium Celebration in an Elementary School
Do you know of any videos, plays, songs or activities we could put together for a special assembly or party with the kids the last day of school before the New Millennium?

The Party Girl's advice is:

I don't know of any specific ones. You might check the local library files or keyword millennium on the net. Surf the different ideas at gamegirl site for possibilities.

Eileen asked:

Occasion: millennium class party
I have to plan a holiday party for a class of 9 and 10 year old children. My theme is millennium 2000 and the party will be for 1 hour on De. 23. in the classroom. There are 20 children. Any ideas how to make this fun, inexpensive and cool for the kids and parents who are running it? Thanks for your input. I am at a loss!

The Party Girl's advice is:

Have the kids write and illustrate some predictions for the coming year. Don't have them sign them but put them up on a board and let everyone guess. Then vote to see who thinks what will really happen. Let them decorate sugar cookies. Make a piņatas and fill it with candy.

Kari asked:

Occasion: New Year's Eve
I need help. Cheap help...with planning my Millennium party. I want to impress my friends. What should I do to make my party the greatest?

The Party Girl's advice is:

Have you looked at the millennium party themes on the theme page? Some good ideas there. Have each of your friends give you a list (ahead of time) of predictions for the new millennium and see if people can guess who wrote what.

Ashton asked:

Occasion: Millennium Party
What should I do at my party? I don't want it to be a dance party. I want it to be fun!

The Party Girl's advice is:

Look at the millennium themes on the page. Then check out the teen games on gamegirl

The Party Girl's advice is:

Go to the partygirl page and see the different millennium ideas.

Theresa asked:

Occasion: Christmas party

The Party Girl's advice is:

Look at the gamegirl section at kids games, outdoor games, etc. for stuff to do. Make your own sundaes would be fun. why not pizza shaped like a snowman?

Sophia asked:

Occasion: dance party
Do you have tips on how to do this party?

The Party Girl's advice is:

Look at the beach/Hawaiian theme on party411/themes. Also some of the fiesta stuff might work. Look at www.oriental.com for great inexpensive stuff for decorations. Scoop out watermelon halves and fill with fruit and salads. Marinate chicken with veggies and put on skewers and cook. Mix mandarin oranges with rice and pine nuts. Have a limbo contest. Play pass the orange. Blow up a picture of a funny character and play a game of Pin the Part and you supply the parts.

chika24 asked:

Occasion: millennium
Hi, its me again. anyways. how can you make a room look really cool. I have lots of balloons and sparkly curling ribbon. any ideas?

The Party Girl's advice is:

Use your computer and clip art and make great decorations which you can then add glitter, ribbons, candy, anything to. Have everyone give you their picture scanned and printed and decorate them. Blow up a picture of you two and play a game of Pin the Nose. get or make party hats and horns, etc. and put them up all over the room. Make banners.

KB asked:

Occasion: Millennium party
I have a question about a party I am having. My cousin and I are inviting the 7th and 8th grade at our school for a Millennium Party. I am sure everyone won't come, but there should be a lot of people there! Do you have any ideas for entertainment for us? Thanks a bunch! ~KB~

The Party Girl's advice is:

Look at the Millennium section of themes for some ideas and at the New Year's Eve games at gamegirl. One good and fun ideas that everyone brings a baby picture of themselves and put these on a board that's numbered and see who can get the most. also have everyone bring a prediction for the new millennium and read the best ones.

Jennifer asked:

Occasion: Teenagers Millennium Party
Hi, I am having a millennium party. I need some ideas. I am not formal to wear I give seats to anyone or they don't have to come dressed up. I just want some games and Ideas. If you having any please help. Thanks

The Party Girl's advice is:

Look at party411.com/gamegirl at categories like New Year's Eve and Teen games for some ideas.

Alice asked:

Occasion: New Years
I want to have a new years party but my mom said I can't have one ON new years eve. Should I have it before, after? I don't know what to do, HELP!!!  P.S.-It will be Co-ed

The Party Girl's advice is:

Why not have a New Years Day party. Have a brunch-football party (that way the boys will come). Serve brunch food and get a picture of baby new year and play a game of Pin the Part. Supply your guests with cut out arms and legs and grapes or raisin for eyes, etc. have a football theme for the party. Look at www.oriental.com for great decorations.

Stressed Out! asked:

Occasion: millennium + Christmas
I'm having a Christmas and Millennium party put together in one night. Well the thing is this is the first big party I'm throwing and want my guests (friends) to have lots of fun. I plan to make the dinner and the treat and have planned a movie or 2. I've looked at party411's party those. I need more activities to do!! Please help I have thought so hard and only come up with a couple of ideas!

The Party Girl's advice is:

Get a large poster of Baby New year and play a game of Pin the Parts. You supply the body parts such as arms and leg cutouts, grapes for eyes, etc. and have a ball. Get one of those boxed mystery games to play. Look at the game page again and look at the taping of commercial game.

Meghan asked:

Occasion: just cause
I have an assignment at school to throw a "healthy" party for health class with the rest of the people in my group. I need some health Hawaiian foods that aren't to fussy or too expensive.

The Party Girl's advice is:

Most of the Hawaiian foods are "healthy". Pineapple, kiwi, strawberries, roasted meat (the grease is gone) You could make fruit kabobs with bananas, kiwi, strawberries, etc. Also chicken kabobs with pieces of chicken, green pepper, and pineapple (marinate these before cooking in teriyaki sauce. Put the fruit in watermelon halves that are scooped out and do this with a melon ball and serve along with kabob. For beverages, mix 1 part cranberry juice, 3 parts orange juice with a little soda water. Put those tiny umbrellas on top. You can find decorations at www.oriental.com

Kelly asked:

Occasion: Holiday Open House
I am having a holiday open house and I plan to invite family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. Recently, as a result of a very embarrassing situation (for him) I ended a brief but serious relationship. I'm not sure he realizes that I would remain friends with him, and I haven't heard from him in quite a while. Would it be way off base to invite him and his roommates to my holiday open house? I'd just like to break the ice and reestablish a friendship since we have other mutual friends and the holidays could be very awkward. I've already run into one of his roommates and it was very tough to know what to say. What would be the best way to handle this?

The Party Girl's advice is:

I think inviting him and his friends is an excellent way to reestablish your friendship. Be sure to let him know in person as well as a written invitation. A simple phone call after you mail it. Ask if he got it and let him know that you would really like him to come.

liz asked:

Occasion: hello
My class has decided to make our winter dance informal. I don't know what the rules are for dress or themes. Can you have a formal theme at an informal dance. What are informal themes? For homecoming dance week people did Paris, Jungle, Under the Ocean and 50/60/70/80's day. That means I can't do any of that. I'm thinking of Silver snowflakes. Millennium's color is silver and snowflakes represent winter. I can't do a big millennium theme because it will be held in February. All music goes, my brother is Ding and he has everything. Please, I need an idea or two. Thank you so much.

The Party Girl's advice is:

Surf thru the ideas on party411.com/themes. There are too many for me to list here. Why not a beach party in February. Would be different.

Kimberly asked:

Occasion: Scavenger Hunt Party
I need lots of ideas for a Scavenger hunt! Anything that you can think of would help. They will be able to drive around to collect things. Thanks for your time

The Party Girl's advice is:

One idea is to give everyone a disposable camera and a list of things to take pictures of. Have them drop their film off at a one hour place and then pick them up and compare. Another idea is to pick a theme such as people, (age, color, type, etc.) or go with colors such as all things red. Also look at party411.com/gamegirl at hunts and rally.

Wendy asked:

Occasion: cookie party
I was looking for some info. on a cookie party? Where everyone brings their own kind of cookie and you swap with others. I'm trying to find out more details about this kind of party can you help?

The Party Girl's advice is:

That's about all I know about this also. You could assign each person a color or an animal or a letter and have them use that in the wrapping. Put one of each of those things in a bag and have each person draw one out. Make sure that each person includes the recipe and enough for everyone to taste.

val asked:

Occasion: game room
I have this rec room, because I moved into this new house and it's just me and my mom living here, so get my own rec room! but anyway I want it to look like a permanent party cause I have my friends over a lot. I have a pool table and a lot of plants. what color should I paint the room? And what theme should I go for? I want an original idea but I cant get anything on the net. pleeeease help!! thanks, val

The Party Girl's advice is:

One idea, paint a light blue with clouds and let your friends help decorate the clouds. You can use Fun-Tak to put up pictures on a temporary basis without ruining the paint. Find some old large frames and decorate them with shells or other materials and put mirrors in them and hang them in various parts. Get those stars that pick up light and put them on the ceiling.

AP asked:

Occasion: millennium
My sister and I are planning a millennium party but we need a theme fast. We are also trying to get the family together to join us we have a huge family so we want the theme to be something to get there attention.

The Party Girl's advice is:

Go to party411.com/gamegirl and see the millennium themes. Also look at the different game ideas that involve families such as reunion games.

Mary asked:

Occasion: MILLENNIUM TEEN PARTY
I NEED HELP WITH A THEME, DECORATIONS, EATS, AND GAMES FOR A TEEN PARTY AGES 13-18

The Party Girl's advice is:

Have you looked at the millennium themes at party411.com/themes. Also look at some of the teen stuff.

Anon asked:

Occasion: just for fun
I am in desperate need of help. I've never actually had a sleep over party before, However this year I've decided to throw one for my 13th B-day. Giving advice to adolescents about their parties may not be your specialty, but I truly need all the help I can get. My question is, what kind of things should I do as far as entertainment goes? I mean, I'm just not familiar at all with what to do. I'll admit that we do a lot of sitting around and talking, but do you have any ideas on what would be fun for a group of about 11 girls to do?

The Party Girl's advice is:

Try this: Do makeovers and hair Bake brownies and cookies Get a great video You might try some of these: two sets of ten items that are awkward to pass hand to hand, such as a feather, flypaper, popcorn kernel, Slime, caterpillar, toothpick, glass of water, ice cream cone, plate of marbles, and so on. Set the items on a table in a row. Have each player put on a pair of roomy garden gloves. Divide the group into two teams and have each team form a line. Have the first players on each team pick up the first item from the table and pass it to the next player in line. If a player drops or spills the item, it must be returned to the table and passed from the beginning again. First team to complete all the passes, wins! Here's a variation: Have the two teams wearing gloves stand in line. Give the first players the same number of pieces of gum as there are players on the team. The first player must hold the gum, and try to unwrap a piece to put in his mouth, then pass the gum pieces on to the next player, who must try to do the same. The first team to have all their mouths full of gum wins the game! Get a Karaoke machine and sing your hearts out. Don't forget to videotape the whole thing. y book GAMES PEOPLE PLAY that might help. One last suggestion: How about a Trivia Game about school, such as "What's the Science Teacher's First Name?" "Where did the school get its name?" "When was the school built?" and so on. Here's one that's fun for both girls and boys, that doesn't rely on physical skill or special expertise. Tape record a bunch of commercials from TV, being sure not to record the name of the product. Space them out a bit on the tape with some blank tape in between, then play the tape back at the party and let them all race to guess the name of the product. You can do this with video tape if you prefer, and play the tape back on your VCR. You can also tape record bits of TV shows instead of commercials, for fun.

Sarah asked:

Occasion: just for fun
My roommate and I want to throw a theme/character/role playing party. We want ideas on what characters we should do. we have a few so far...a jock, a detective, a farmer, a talk show host, etc. its sort of like another Halloween...but different in the way that we get to choose the costumes/roles. Any advice would be great...

The Party Girl's advice is:

There are games in boxes for this sort of party. You can usually find them at bookstores, on the web at book sites or at party places. Or just think of things you would like to wear as a costume such as a dance hall girl, a cowboy and his horse (a duet), sports figure, little old person, new baby

Randy asked:

Occasion: Bachelorette
help help- I need 2 fun games for a bachelorette party and I didn't have time to by a book... can you help please sincerely  really late

The Party Girl's advice is:

Look at party411.com/gamegirl at the bachelorette section for ideas. Photocopying body parts and playing pin the part is always good.

Lisa asked:

Occasion: gift exchange
Is there any other gift exchange game ideas other than the ones where you put numbers on packages and then can do the trading thing. We do this every year and it is time for something different. Usually it is our girls club that just gets out from the men and kids and goes to dinner, so anything at this point would be helpful. Thanks!

The Party Girl's advice is:

One idea - pick a theme for the gifts such as things to drink (bar)) or games or food and place a monetary limit. Have the giver write a funny poem or story to go with the gift. Instead of drawing numbers, give everyone a certain gift wrap and save a piece to pick from a bag. No trading until they're open. Go for humor.

Crissie and Linda asked:

Occasion: millennium
We are in Wash state. We are in process of planning for a millennium party and feel we need help on the planning. We are having live music and overnighters Can you help us with organizing our minds to organize party?

The Party Girl's advice is:

A lot depends upon how old you are and what sort of budget you have. Mixed or just girls? Look at party411.com/themes at special occasions and check out the millennium parties there. Also look at other themes. Then check party411.com/gamegirl for ideas of games to play. If you need more help, write back with specifics.

Alan asked:

Occasion: millennium party
My girlfriend and I are having a Millennium party for three to five couples. We would like to know what suggestions that you would have for activities. Here is some info for you:  All couples range in age from 45 - 55 All couples are upper-middle class professionals Wide range of hobbies and activities: art, sports, travel, garden, computer,  hiking, dancing, music, food, movies,  decorating, finance, entertaining others  We plan to either make dinner and or cater the event with decorating our house.  What ideas do you have for fun and games to keep everyone happy!

The Party Girl's advice is:

Have you looked at party411.com/themes under special occasions? There are some millennium ideas there. I bet if everyone made something and contributed to the bar, you could do it yourself. But catering is great, especially having a server to take care of the kitchen while you enjoy yourselves.

Staci asked:

Occasion: farewell
One of out choir members is leaving for Canada and we are giving her a farewell this Wednesday do you have any ideas we can use at the party?

The Party Girl's advice is:

Have everyone choose a favorite picture and memory and give it to you for an album keepsake. Blow up a picture of the guest of honor and have everyone sign it.

Xspots asked:

Occasion: Saturday evening party or Sunday open house?
I'm trying to decide whether to throw a Saturday evening party (8PM-12M) or a Sunday afternoon (2p-6P) open house to celebrate the holidays with friends this December. One seems like too much (Saturday) and one seems too informal (Sunday).  What is expected at each affair?  Our guest list will be 40-70 people long.  Thanks for the help!

The Party Girl's advice is:

I get tired of evening parties during the holidays and love the opportunity to kick back during a Sunday. Have football on the television for those who like it, dress casually, serve more comfort food than dressy food. During that time of year, chili is great with all the fixings. I assume the reason for getting together is to enjoy each other so that is what is expected. Maybe plan a half-time game such as blowing up a picture of a referee and play a game of "Pin the Whistle". Or have everyone bring a baby picture of themselves and put them on a board and have a prize for the person who gets the most right. Most of all, have a good time yourself, something most hosts forget.

kathleen asked:

Occasion: New Year's Eve
Any suggestions for games or things to do and for decorating and for a menu. Thanks so much

The Party Girl's advice is:

Sounds to me like a game of "Clue" is in order with a little Agatha Christie Oriental Express flavor. Play a real life game of clue or the board game. Have everyone pick one of the characters and dress accordingly. You could serve a very "English" menu with roast beef and Yorkshire pudding and trifle. Blow up a picture of a very prim person dressed in the period (a man) and play a game of "Pin the Moustache". As for decorating, candles, feathers, glitter, long cigarette holders (unused I hope) etc. Look at the library for pictures of the era.

Whitney asked:

Occasion: any party
Should I have my 6th grade friends come to my party with my sisters 4th grade friends?   Thanx

The Party Girl's advice is:

Well, that depends. Usually the older sister tells the younger sister to invite one close friend so that she won't feel "out of it" but your friends probably don't want the younger ones and it is your party.

shawna asked:

Occasion: church teen Christmas party
what kind of activities would be best for this type of party and what can be used as a theme? I need something that will fit the holiday but also be a lot of fun for the age group.

The Party Girl's advice is:

Instead of having the usual party, why not use the theme of caring and sharing. Make arrangements with a children's ward at a hospital, or a battered women's shelter or a retirement home and have the teens give a party for someone else.

Jill asked:

Occasion: 30th birthday
Help! I scheduled a party for this Saturday to have a barbeque and watch Auburn football. I just found out that the game has been moved to an earlier time - 6 hours earlier! There will be 25-30 people at my house and now I am not sure how to entertain them. Also, the party is to celebrate a boyfriend turning 30. Please help!

The Party Girl's advice is:

You have a few choices. Change the time of the party, watch another game, tape the game and show it at the party (warn others not to watch), look at party411.com/themes for another idea. Good luck

Sue asked:

Occasion: Our quilting group, Christmas party
Any ideas for something we could do besides our usual Chinese gift exchange. Any ideas for something I could add to the decorating scheme that's 'quilty.' I'm going to make hors d'ouerves, but how about an idea for a spectacular center-piece for the food table and ideas for setting it. (Will be buffet style) TIA. Sue

The Party Girl's advice is:

Make the centerpiece edible. Use wicker baskets and bamboo skewers. Get veggies such as radishes, colored peppers, carrots, green onions, broccoli florets, cukes, sliced in rounds, cherry tomatoes, etc. Trim skewers to various lengths and place bottom of green onions on them as stalks. Stick all the veggies on one end of the skewers. Cut a cabbage in half and place in bottom of basket. Insert skewers into cabbage in pleasing order. Surround these with all sorts of dips.
