Kimberly asked:
Occasion: Women's Auxiliary Gathering/Funny Fashion Show
We would like to do a "Funny fashion show". You know "Here is
Kim wearing a nice springy dress" and out comes Kim in a dress covered
with springs. Kind of tacky but fun. I can't find the detailed idea with the
other "styles" for the show. Any ideas? Please let me know.
The Party Girl's advice is:
I assume you want ideas for the
dresses? I was a bit confused... If you make it a "spring" funny
fashion show...you can use a floral theme... for instance, have someone come
out wearing a nice spring dress with a pot of daisies on her head (actually,
you can buy this and other hats from Pony Express...888-hatline for
catalogue). They also have a pink flamingo, a tropical fish, a shark, a
parrot, a "daisy" fro, a "daisy" bandana and others. There
are other companies as well. Make a dress out of Astroturf for green for grass
(spring again)-- this works, too. What else do you do in spring...a dress with
a poem on it..."spring has sprung, the grass has ris..." Stuff like
that. Work for you? We can help with all of the above. Let us know or call

April asked:
Occasion: family reunion
I am planning a small family reunion (approx. 50-75 people) to be held in
Boston later this year (late August or early September), but have no idea
where to go, what to do, etc. Any recommendations as to meeting or event
planners in the Boston area or other suggestions as to putting together this
event?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Hi April! Did you go to the Boston
section of our site to pick out a party planner? There are five or six
companies listed there that should be able to help you.
Unknown asked:
Occasion: a "shoe in"
Help! We are having a
party with the theme "It's a shoe in". I am looking for innovative
decorating ideas to decorate a large gym. We are having the program tied into
someone reminiscing over various types of shoes. i.e.: ballet shoe, ballet
dancing, tap shoes/ Celtic dancing, etc. Any ideas besides old shoes on the
table for center pieces? Thanks
The Party Girl's advice is:
Yes. There are wire shoe miniatures you
can use to put candy on the table. There are also small "shoe" paper
shopping bags that would be fun as the base of the centerpiece with balloons
coming out. Use gym shoe or the shoe of your choice on a key chain (readily
available) and tie these to the seating cards or around the napkins (a great
party favor). Want more? Let me know.
Kathy asked:
Occasion: Shipwrecked Party
I want to
send the invitations in plastic bottles(invitation rolled up inside bottle on
"tattered" paper), but I'm having trouble finding the bottles. So
far, I've only been able to find glass bottles. Any ideas where I might be
able to locate some? As a last resort I guess I could use plastic soda
bottles, but I didn't want them that big. Thanks!
The Party Girl's advice is:
If you let us know what size bottle you
are looking for, we will be happy to find them for you from a plastics mfg.
They are not hard to come by! Let us know.
Courtney asked:
Occasion: fraternity/sorority party
I am planning a
themed mixer for my sorority and another fraternity. I need to come up with
some cool themes that are very simple, and easy to dress for. We are on a
tight budget and decorations aren't the focal point - the costumes are. We've
gone through luau, Hollywood, rock and roll, pajama, wedding, etc., we need an
original, crazy, funny theme that would be fitting for a fraternity party.
Thanks so much for your help...Courtney Maggart - Cornell University
The Party Girl's advice is:
How about Mardi Gras? March is Mardi
Gras in New Orleans and it's the perfect themes. It lends itself to costumes,
masks, outrageous body painting...you name it! What do you think?
Haeven asked:
Occasion: slumber party
Well, my youth
group leader is hosting a slumber party for the girls in the youth group.
Since there will be two adults there, I'm not sure what we can do! We can't
make prank phone calls, we can't talk about guys, etc. Help, what are we going
to do?!?
The Party Girl's advice is:
I am sorry that I missed this. I was in
New York at the gift show and the hotel modem lines were down. How was it? Let
us know!
sara asked:
Occasion: VALENTINES-BIRTHDAY DANCE PARTY
WHAT WOULD BE SOME GOOD
DECORATION IDEAS? THE PLACE IS OUR TOWN COMMUNITY HOUSE WHICH IS KINDA OLD.
THEREFORE IT'S BUILT OF A DARK WOOD AND IT'S KINDA DULL WHAT ARE SOME GOOD
UPLIFTING DECORATION IDEAS? AND WHAT KIND OF SNACKS??
The Party Girl's advice is:
The best decorations for a party like
this that is within most budgets, tends to be balloons. There are fabulous Mylar
red lip balloons, Mylar hearts in dark, deep sparkly red and more. Add a
"disco" ball type thing, and the lights will dance off the balloons
for a great effect. Give out heart message candies...in fact, check out our
valentine's day party at http://www.party411/holidays.html.
Sandra asked:
Occasion: GROUP LUNCHEON
AM LOOKING FOR IDEAS
TO CARRY OUR JAPANESE TEA GARDEN THEME. ALSO, LOOKING FOR RESOURCES TO
PURCHASE JAPANESE THEMED DECORATIONS. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Sandra, for inexpensive favors,
Japanese lanterns and more, check out Oriental Trading Co. (www.orient.com for
a catalogue). For tea garden ideas, Anderson's (a party company that does mail
order) might be able to help at www.andersonsparty.com. Let me know if I can
help further.
Nicole asked:
Occasion: candle lighting ceremony
I am turning sixteen in may. I know there is a candle ceremony. but I don't
know how it goes. please help me or give me a book that might have this info.
The Party Girl's advice is:
A candle lighting goes like this. You
set out 17 candles; one each for 16 important people in your life (one for
each year), and one for yourself. You then call people up to light these
candles with you, one at a time--after saying something nice about them in
poem form, by telling a story or just a few words. You can call up one person
or an entire family for each candle (it isn't limited to one person per
candle). The 17th candle is yours to light for the future...after thanking
everyone for being there for you. It's a bit of writing and hard work, but
it's worth it as a way of saying thank you to the people who have made your
first 16 years fabulous. By the way, the most important people come last!
joyce asked:
Occasion: 70's party
Need ideas for a '70 theme at my house. Invite mostly couples age ranging 30 -
50 about 25 people. Our 4th annual party and this date is Sat. Feb. 27.
Decorating, dress, food, drinks, music. Village People? Disco? Thanks for any
ideas.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Who doesn't love the Village People.
Get their tape and get everyone in the living room doing the YMCA thingabob!
Great fun. And take pictures. Tie-dye some napkins (easy to do); buy a couple
of lava lamps (imperative!)... put out some incense and give everyone at least
one peace sign. As well, light up a lot of candles. Peace sign candles,
tie-dyed mushroom candles and more are available at any candle store in your
nearest mall. You may also want to supply temporary tattoos, some backlight music posters and other fun stuff like mood rings, etc.
Erin asked:
Occasion: 50's sock-hop then slumber party
Do you have some good
party ideas for a 50's party. (Please rush us information!!)
The Party Girl's advice is:
Certainly. Get some old 45 records at a
record store that sells used stuff or at a house sale. They are real easy to
find. Put three of them together with glue, standing on edge, to make a
triangle. Then put Mylar jukebox balloons coming out of the center. Great
bouquets and centerpieces. As well, let the kids make Chef Boy-ar-dee pizza
like people did in the 50's before there was such a thing as delivery. And
play some music, give the kids the words, and let them sing along in front of
a fake microphone. At your local party store, you find other decorations that
include Elvis paper goods, oversized plastic 45's for the walls, cardboard 57 Chevy's
that hold sandwiches or gifts, inflatable instruments, cut-outs and
more. Have fun.
Joellen asked:
Occasion: Opening Day, Yacht Season: Smooth Sailing, Seven
Seas
I am in charge of our opening day of Yacht season at our
yacht club. Thought I would use the above theme, but am struggling with table
decorations. 10 tables, 8 people @. thought about globes or maps.....want to
stay away from the plastic boat/anchor/sand/ idea. Having
"international" food theme with food stations serving pasta and
fajitas, and eclectic selection of foods from different countries. Ideas for
tables?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Well, each table should be named for a
different "sea"...you may have to use a couple of oceans (since
there are only 7 seas, but who cares!). Instead of using boats, ships, yachts
(whatever is appropriate), just use the names on a dowel rod coming out of
sand base. Or, if you have any graphic capability, get a graphic of a seagull
and put a speech balloon coming out of his/her mouth with the name of the
table. These would be back to back and any local printer can mount them on
foam core for you. If you are doing seating cards, put a line on there like,
"it will be smooth sailing to Table No. 3, The Baltic Sea" Or easier
yet, they have balloons with the sailing "signs" (is that what they
are called?) and you could make fabulous centerpieces with those. Does any of
that appeal to you? If you need help with the graphics part, let us know. We
can send you the art and you can have it reproduced in Los Angeles!
Jan asked:
Occasion: dice theme
I am part of a bunco group that meets monthly. Next month is my turn to host.
We always have themes and mine is dice. We try to have the food, decorations,
invitations, prizes, and sometimes even our clothing all co-ordinate with the
theme. I am having a little bit of trouble coming up with food to go with my
theme, especially snacky type such as candy or finger food. Any suggestions?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Hi. We have a great thing for
you--chocolate dice. They measure about 1.5" x 1.5" and come three
to a box. In fact, yesterday we sold 150 to a charity who is having a casino
night. They run $5 for 3...and we can ship them anywhere. Does that help? By
the way, it should be pretty simple to make finger sandwiches and add olives
to the bread to make them look like dice!!
Brian asked:
Occasion: mixer
I'm trying to plan a
party/mixer with another sorority from another college. The standard parties
we've had in the past are primarily music and drinking which is fun, but
doesn't really promote a lot of communication back and forth and everyone
leaves thinking its been just another party. Could you please recommend an
idea we could use to throw a wild fun party? It is a random sorority I picked,
so there isn't anyone from my fraternity or their sorority who knows each
other.
The Party Girl's advice is:
This is touchy because you have to do
something that your peers find interesting or you're in for a lot of
complaints. There's a couple things that come to mind that I might do that
work and still have an edge. For instance, I would take an Absolute ad or a
beer ad and I would have it mounted at a local Kinko's or print shop. Then I
would cut it into puzzle pieces and have each person take one as they come in.
Make like five of these puzzles. And let people try to match pieces with other
people in the room; they can trade, pay for them, steal them--who cares. Make
sure to put up a finished copy of the ad so they know what they are looking
for...by the way, the puzzle pieces should be pretty big. Come up with some
great gift for the five winners...like a case of beer or bottle of Absolut to
take home (not to be consumed there, by all means).
Susan asked:
Occasion: 50's party
Just looking for some ideas for table decorations for the 1950's and have a
limit of $10-$12 per table. There will be 10 at a table, rounds. Any
suggestions you have would be appreciated. (oh yeah, I'm not real talented!)
The Party Girl's advice is:
You're not talented? Who is, honey! I'm
not talented and I do this for a living. I'm just creative. So here's a cheap
centerpiece: go to a house sale or a used record store and buy some 45's; stand
them up on end and glue them together to make a triangle (this should cost,
altogether, about $1). Then go to your local party store or balloon company,
and have them make you bouquets that include one Mylar jukebox balloon (it's
colorful and fabulous and screams 50's). These should cost about $8. The
bouquet goes in the center of the three records. Have them cover the weight
with Mylar in the colors you are using throughout the room. Voila, for about
$10 you have a great centerpiece.
Jungle Mom asked:
Occasion: safari party
I am having a hard time figuring out what to do for my 8 year olds party. Any
suggestions.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Are you having a safari party or are
you looking for other party ideas? A safari party would be fun and you can add
a scavenger hunt to it. Kid's pith helmets are less than $1 and binoculars are
less than 50¢ from Oriental Trading (www.orient.com). There's tons of paper goods
with a "jungle" theme. Plus there are puzzles and more
with jungle themes. Let the kids go on a safari (in the house or wherever the
party is) and hide prizes like animal crackers and things to do with stuff you
find in the jungle. They'll love it and it will keep them busy. If you need
another idea, let me know.
julie asked:
Occasion: Father/daughter Girl Scout Cinderella ball
We are in the process
of planning a Cinderella ball for fathers and daughters(a Girls Scout event)
in our service unit area. We are expecting about 200-300 to attend. Any
suggestions for activites or decorations would be appreciated.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Sounds like great fun. I would decorate
with white balloons and tulle. Maybe you can get a local balloon company to
decorate for you. For the centerpieces, use a Lucite slipper with silver,
white and clear balloons. Put chocolate magic wands on the tables for dessert.
Don't forget to set up a photo opportunity for fathers and daughters. You may
want to charge a little something for this so the photographer that donates
his time gets his film paid for. But it's a great "favor." At the
front entrance, pile up a bunch of pumpkins (to represent the coach). And go
from there!
Sherry asked:
Occasion: a "tea"
I am in charge of generating a theme and ideas for a group of mostly older
ladies...actually ages from 18-90...but most over 60. This is for a group of
75-100 and will be an afternoon tea. It is in May of 1999 and we would like to
come up with a "title" that includes flowers, spring, Victorian gardens, etc. We do not need game ideas as such, since we have a
lengthy business meeting and present lots of awards, etc. I have spoken with several
excellent caterers and have it narrowed down to 2 or 3. Any ideas you
have would be greatly appreciated and we could use all the help we can get.
Oh, and of course, we have a limited budget of about $300 for decorations,
favors, etc. Again, thanks for any suggestions you might offer.
The Party Girl's advice is:
There are some fabulous chocolate tulip
favors that are just adorable for about $2 each. The little pots (solid
chocolate) are foil-wrapped in pinks and lavenders and a chocolate tulip comes
out of each. We can send you more information if you would like. The other
thing is to use mini-watering cans (50¢ each) with a sprinkle of flowers and
flavored teas coming out attached to popsicle sticks. Easy to make or we can
provide for $3.50 each. To go with that theme...regarding centerpieces, since
it is spring, get the larger version of the tin watering cans and fill them
with balloons (if the ceiling is high) or fill them with flowers mixed with
flavorful tea bags (the graphics on those bags are fabulous). They are about
$3 each at local craft stores. As far as a title, if you would let me know
what this group is about...I can certainly give you some ideas.
Marcia asked:
Occasion: SLUMBER PARTY - GIRLS
Do you have any
ideas for games for this age group and prizes?
The Party Girl's advice is:
There are some great game books by
Penny Warner for kids of all ages. You can find them at your local library,
party store or book store. As well, check out the Valentine's Day party ideas
in our holiday section (some arts and crafts ideas that are fun).
Nicole asked:
Occasion: Blues Clues party theme
I was curious as to how to get a hold of plans to host a Blue's Clue's Birthday
party for my son. Thank you.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Available for Blue's Clues parties are
paper plates, tablecloths, napkins, cups, balloons and treat bags. There is
also a Blue's Clues game ($16), a floor puzzle ($10). Using the game and the
puzzle, you should be able to put together a terrific party. Available at your
local toy store. If you have a tough time finding it, let me know what city
you are in, and we're happy to help!
Lynn asked:
Occasion: Chili Fest Tasting Party
I'm having a party at my home with like a group of 10 families and this will be
a chili fest. And we want everyone to bring their own favorite chili in a
crock pot. We will have a tasting contest for the most outrageous, chunkiest,
most spicy, etc. We are looking for more ideas to plan this theme party. Can
you help or have any suggestions? let me know thanks!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Well, I would do a trivia contest about
the history of chili (available on the internet); I would have people bring
recipes to interchange. I would make sure that your gag gifts for the
different categories of chili are really out there and funny. Another great
idea would be to have each person video tape (like a cooking show) them making
the chili they are bringing to the event. Then show these. Give a prize for
the most creative! Does that help?
Disco Diva asked:
Occasion: Disco Part
Hi Party Girl! Would appreciate your party ideas for a DISCO party that I will
be hosting for 7 couples. I am unbelievably "Uncreative" - any ideas
on food and party decorations? Your thoughts are most appreciated!
The Party Girl's advice is:
70's parties or disco parties are great
fun. You might want to start with a disco ball...usually about $25 to rent
from a local prop company. Then, of course, fill the room with incense. For
just a few dollars at a local poster store, you may want to buy some posters
to use for decorations--Saturday Night Fever, Donna Summer, the BeeGees... Or
decorate with old albums hanging from the ceiling (and maybe a few CDs thrown
in for good measure). Old albums are available for pennies at record trading
stores. Does this help?
M.M. asked:
Occasion: Valentine's day
valentine day, what kind of food should I put out not expensive just pick food
any ideas thanks
The Party Girl's advice is:
foil-covered chocolate covered hearts
make your own heart-shaped cookies or buy the Pillsbury cookie rolls with the
heart in the middle... make finger sandwiches cut in the shape of hearts
heart-shaped jello mold (molds are easy to find) stuff like that; check out my
valentine's day suggestions at www.party411.com/holidays-valentine.html
Brenda asked:
Occasion: Valentine's Day

for adult party favors and fun stuff to do. Party games. Thank You I, really

Matthew asked:
Occasion: toga
How do I tie a toga?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Now on the serious business of
toga-tying. Don't use a sheet. They don't fit, plus your mom or wife/husband
will get p*ssed if you use one for a toga party, and sheets cost more than
actual bolts of cloth. Plus, at the cloth store, you can get some cool fabric
that really represents your personality, whether it be royal purple or Snoopy
designs. Buy several yards, like three or four. It takes about three feet to
go around your waist, and you need to wrap it at least 1.5 times around your
waist before you throw the remainder over your shoulder (either shoulder).
Then bring the fabric back to the waist, and tie it up or wrap it some more or
whatever. Women will (possibly) want to tie the fabric carefully to preserve
modesty (or not) around the bustal region. New information just in! Apparently
they worn tunic-like shirt things underneath the basic toga wrap. This bare
shouldered thing is apparently a myth created by American college
fraternities. The design is simple: 1.Around the waist at least once 2.Pin it
at that point 3.Throw the rest over one shoulder 4.Around the back 5.Pin it
again at the waist. 6.Wear gym shorts underneath (this is a flexible point)
7.Try to wear sandals, if possible Now that's the basic design. Used by males
at least. Variations used by females would be to use the some basic wrap
design, of some form, often followed by small horizontal bands (leather,
chain, whatever), accentuating waist and bust line. Usually women want to have
the costume at least be attractive, whereas guys really don't care how dufus
they look. If fact, the more dufus you look, the more your friends will make
fun of you, and thus the more popular you will be at the party. From:

Debbie asked:
Occasion: Company Picnic
We are having our annual co.
picnic again this year. We decided on a Western theme. We have about 400
people altogether - maybe 200 adults and 100 children. We are having it at a
local resort type campground but most activities will be in the enclosed
banquet room because it is air conditioned. Our picnic last year was Beach
Blast '98 and worked out well. Of course now, we have to top that!! I have
some ideas but would like to hear yours too! Games, entertainment, decor,
food, etc!! Thanks for you help ahead of time!! Dg
The Party Girl's advice is:
For a creative centerpiece, use an
old-style metal coffee pot, a bandanna-lined basket (that the caterer fills
with breads), some old-style metal coffee cups, and several bottles of fancy
barbecue sauce. Just put these all together in the center of the table. Use
checkered toppers over red linens for great looking tables, and use solid red
and solid white napkins (every other placesetting) for a little more pizzazz.
Roll up and ribbon-tie one bandanna for each person as a seating card. Tie off
the seating card with their name and table number and you have a party favor,
too. Believe it or not, there are fabulous cowboy boot candles you can use as
votives--not to mention hundreds of other "western" type stuff that
would make your crowd really take notice. Cowboy hats are as inexpensive as $1
apiece so you may want to use them in the decor or make them into seating
cards (add table number and name to front of hat). A great photo opportunity
can be had by bringing some oversized cowboy hats, renting or making a photo
piece where your guests put their heads in the hole and they look like they're
riding a bronco (I didn't say that well, but I think you know what I mean).
What do you think?
Laura asked:
Occasion: fundraiser/golf is the theme
I belong to a club that is having a golf themed fund raiser. I am on the
decorating/ambiance committee. I am looking to find ideas for party favors,
door prizes, food, and anything else to make the night more memorable. Any
help you can provide would be greatly appreciated and show that you are the
true party queen.
The Party Girl's advice is:
I am the true party queen. There is so
much golf stuff out there. Door prizes: check out our fortune cookies; they
have them golf-themed and they are perfect to give out as prizes. Buy them
direct from Creative Cookie or from us. They also work as inexpensive bases
for balloon decorations. Chocolates are big in the golfing set as well. Many
companies have buckets of chocolate golf balls available. As well, they have
mugs shaped like golf bags (great fun) that you can fill with mini chocolate
golf balls, put in a cello bag, tie off with ribbon and give out. For the
centerpieces, those same buckets of balls come in BIG sizes and are perfect
for centerpieces. Tie off some of those fabulous Mylar balloons that look like
golf balls and let one person at the table (the one with the biggest handicap?) take it home. It's good, unusual and works two ways. Seating
cards...you are probably assigning seating...make the seating cards look like
flags from each hole. Then number the tables as such. Mixed in with the
balloons, have the flag coming out with the Table # on it. Need more ideas?
Let me know.
J. Daniel asked:
Occasion: Fiesta Theme
I am on a planning committee for a Youth convention (9th-12th grades). It is a
church group. We are planning a Fiesta for 800 people in a large auditorium.
We will have food, activities and games. We are looking for good ideas. Can you
point us in the right direction?
The Party Girl's advice is:
I don't know if you checked out our
theme section--but there's a great "fiesta" party listed there
(www.party411.com/themes.html). Here is a portion of it. And this should help.
Let me know your budget, and I can probably be even more helpful! A southwest
theme makes for a terrific party! Didn’t you enjoy your last fiesta?
Centerpieces are large-brimmed Mexican sombreros (straw hats) with paper
flowers and maracas mixed in. Add cactus candles to each table for a very
special touch that truly impresses your guests. Hot pepper lights surround the
bars and the buffets. And these same lights mixed with the cactus lights can
light up the walkway and entry to your party. Charming! Yosemite Sam (a
helium-filled balloon walker) will host the taco bar. (Of course, there is a
taco bar)! Fabulous red, orange and yellow latex balloons--mixed with Mylar balloons in the shape of hot peppers, the sun and others-- make up unusual
balloon bouquets. These should be placed throughout the room for an overall
effect. Piñatas in various shapes are hung over the dance floor to be broken
by the blind- folded guest(s) of honor. Guests are welcome to the goodies
inside. The final touch? Florals in the restrooms consist of sand gardens with
cactus and desert flowers. Ole!
judy asked:
Occasion: Western Ho-Down Rehearsal Dinner
Future daughter in law has requested a "western ho-down" rehearsal
dinner party at our home (I decorate largely western being into horses &
from CA originally). We were going to try & find white straw hats for
everyone & big belt buckles & have a pig roast catered out here in the
Indianapolis IN area it will probably be too cold to do this outside. We
expect around 50 people. My house is big enough to accommodate. The date is
March 26th of this year, so I'm frantically searching for other ideas to pull
it all together? Any suggestions where I should look?? Thank you.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Well, you need kerchiefs (the standard
red and black). Use them as napkins or give them out as people arrive. I don't
know if you went into our theme area but you should certainly take a look at
BBQ Express. It has a lot of good ideas you can
use...www.party411.com/themes.html As well, I would go to the Oriental Trading
site (www.oriental.com) and get a catalogue. They have lots of fun stuff to
decorate with (candles, cactus lights, etc.)...that will add to your event.
For sure they have straw cowboy hats. Let me know what further I can do.

Occasion: Pre-Teen Party
what kind of games can we play?
can we make decoration? cool stuff.
The Party Girl's advice is:
check out my valentine's day party in
the "holiday" section. it will be going up in the next few days and
will have lots of ideas for you! including decorating and more!
Rick asked:
Occasion: luau decorations, souvenirs
Hi, I'm in the process of planning a family reunion Hawaiian style. Any suggestions on inexpensive decorations or where
I can find some Hawaiian souvenirs, a travel agent willing to donate a small Hawaiian
getaway for two for
free or for a discounted price to giveaway to a lucky couple at our banquet
that Saturday night. Any suggestions you may have will be greatly appreciated.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Don't count on a free trip to Hawaii
unless you are a non-profit organization. On the other hand, great luau
decorations are available from Oriental Trading Co. (www.orient.com). These
include grass skirts, pink flamingo straws, palm tree lights, coconut cups for
drinks and much much more. Also, if you have the budget, a prop house in your
area probably has palm trees, monkeys and other stuff you can rent and more!
Joyce Resh and Tonya Hainey asked:
Occasion: cub scout luau
Hi! We're having a Cub Scout party and using a "Jungle Book/Luau"
type theme, but we're having a terrible time coming up with something for our
menu. I've been trying to figure something out by looking at all the different
sites on here, but I'm not really very knowledgeable about this whole computer
business, and can't figure out how to really find this stuff! We live in a
little dinky town in Kansas, and have no nice bookstores or even a decent
library to research anything, so we were wondering if you could be of any help
to us in coming up with some sort of recipes that would be of help. We're
figuring on about 30 people or so, and most will be the kids, so we're looking
for food that won't be too fancy for the kids to eat, but will go along with
our theme. Thank you so much, in advance, for your help!!!!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Joyce, Tonya...thanks for stopping by.
Let's see. Luau food isn't too difficult. Try these... Cube pineapple and make
a fun display...all kids eat pineapple. Another fun thing to serve are
"banana fritters"--dip bananas in pancake batter and fry. Grilled
chicken on sticks (sprinkled with coconut) is a favorite at luaus, too. And
even if you serve regular stuff, you can make up a fun menu and give each food
item a fun name (e.g., see below--Island Salad). The Marriott in Maui serves
the following at their luau: Roasted Kalua Pig, Teriyaki Beef Steak,
Polynesian Sweet & Sour Chicken, Fresh Mahi Mahi In Lemon Butter, Island
Style Fried Rice, Hawaiian Baked Sweet Potatoes, Poi, Fresh Island Papaya

Occasion: graduation
Looking for some good ideas for my sons graduation party from high school.
School colors are black and red and the mascot is a devil(I do not
particularly want to tie in the devil theme). He is very conservative and this
will be a yard party under a tent in the back yard. I plan to serve the food
on the back porch with a drink bar under the tree outside. Also DJ in the
garage. I considered doing pictures from his childhood(having them enlarged )
and hanging them around the back porch. I wanted to do the invitations myself
and saw an idea on TV where she used a product from Envelopments. Are you
familiar with a company or a product by this name? I would appreciate any
ideas you have--The party will be the first part of June. Many thanks, Kathy
The Party Girl's advice is:
Hi, Kathy. Easy to decorate...black and
red balloons (and not expensive). Do your tables in red and black (red on half
and black on the other). Napkins should be red on the black tables; black on
the red tables. I have heard of Envelopments (I'm not sure that's the exact
name--in fact, I picked something up of theirs at the gift show; we'll check
our files). It's a cool company. Another idea would be a caricature of him
that you could use for the base of the centerpiece and for a sign-in board.
Check out caricatures on our site...on the sidebar at
www.party411.com...always fun. You can also buy mini megaphones (in red, and
maybe black) from Anderson's Party catalogue (www.andersonsparty.com) and put
his name on the side...or use those as seating cards for your guests (very
inexpensive). Hope I helped. In the meantime, let me see if we can find that
company...
Kathy asked:
Occasion: theme??
some friends and I have started a party of the month club my month is January and
I am having a hard time thinking of a theme for this month any suggestions
are appreciated, Our parties are men and women and I am looking for a cocktail
theme with an activity. example I also have June and I am planning a bbq with
summer Olympics as the theme. but for January it is the first party and we
kinda need to make a big impression to get the other couples motivated into
hosting their own party. thanks again for your help kathy pennington
The Party Girl's advice is:
Why not make it a luau? Everyone loves
a luau...and there are so many inexpensive ways to entertain. From pink
flamingo straws to "coconut" drink holders--if you have everyone
come dressed for the beach and play reggae music, the party will be
unforgettable. The menu is certainly easy (anything with coconut!)... Give out
leis, giant sized sunglasses and more. Let me know how many people, what your
budget is, the age range... and other details...and I'll give you details.

I don't know the purpose of the
party...so let's assume it's a "Chase the Winter Blues" party, okay?
Since it is the middle of winter...why not make it a luau? Have everyone come
dressed for the beach. Your menu certainly works. Give out leis, giant sized
sunglasses and more. Let me know how many people, what your budget is, the age
range... and other details...and I'll give you details.
