Interview Watch Party

The Supreme Leader’s birthday is January 8, so do like the North Koreans, and throw a birthday “bash”. Celebrate Kim Jong Un’s 32nd birthday with a viewing party of the controversial film, The Interview, and decorate your home with North Korean “decorations”. Don’t forget invites, favors, and a unforgettable menu!

If people ask, dress is “Dictator Divine”. Put this wording at the bottom of your invite so everyone knows!

Don’t forget to add a little red star confetti to each envelope. We are celebrating a Communist dictatorship afterall! Red is their color!

the interview watch party decorations
Transform your home into a self-contained North Korea for your viewing party. Make sure the decorations are all tongue in cheek references to Kim Jong Un’s dynasty. Try a few ideas listed below:
  • Since North Korea’s political party color is red, decorate your whole home with it. Easy crepe paper streamers, red balloon bunches, and mountains of red garland will turn your home into a communist paradise!
  • Put “SONY” in large letter over the brand name on your TV.
  • Post North Korean “rules” at the door:
    1. No one named Kim Jong Un can attend: Name must be changed prior to entering.
    2. Anyone over 5'4" must hunch down whenever standing.
    3. Remove any shoes that are not labeled Nike.
    4. No Internet or Wi-Fi available.
    5. Everyone must wear a pin of the Supreme Leader (leave these in a basket at the door; find a free printout here).
  • Post a sign at the entrance saying, "No backing the wrong-Un."
  • Or hang a sign along with a yardstick that says, "You must be this tall to start a nuclear war!"
  • Put up pictures of Un's father and grandfather; in North Korea, this is mandatory in every home. (In fact, they get a special cloth to polish the photos).
  • Put bowls of “Warhead” candy on your coffee and end tables.

the interview viewing party menu ideas
Of course you have to feed your guests at your watching party, and your North Korean theme gives you an opportunity to poke fun at the Kim regime. Try a few of these groan-worthy menu ideas:
  • Malnutrition: Ouch! This one hits close to home, but it’s a truth for many unfortunate North Korean citizens. Make a table tent that says “Malnutrition” and place it next to an empty food tray covered in crumbs. Hopefully, it will start some thoughtful conversation.
  • Emmental Cheese Tray (Appetizer): Kim Jong Un is obsessed with emmental cheese (swiss cheese). Serve up a delicious cheese tray with a variety of specialty crackers.
  • Defector’s Delightful Buffet (Main Course): Unfortunately, the only way a North Korean will get ample, hearty food is by defecting to South Korea. So have a “Defector’s Buffet” (make sure to have a table tent, so guests get the joke) where friends can sample Korean food. Order takeout from a local joint and hand out menus and chopsticks that guests can take home as favors.
  • Chocolate Bomb Sundae (Dessert): Serve Chocolate Bomb Cakes http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/robert-irvine/chocolate-bomb-recipe.html with Radioactive Raspberry Ice Cream and War Heads candy on top instead of a cherry. Find War Heads at Staples
  • Communist Punch (Drinks): Serve red fruit punch in red solo cups to fit with your communist theme. Go all out by mixing equal parts punch and 7up along with a some sherbet for a party punch!
Don't forget to serve your food on red paper goods - cups, plates, and napkins!

the interview watch party activities
Obviously, the highlight of your viewing party is watching the controversial film, "The Interview". Download the movie from iTunes or Google. Choose one or two of these other ideas to enhance the viewing experience:
If nothing else, make sure to do a little worshipping of the Kim dynasty before guests head home. See how to do it here.

the interview watch party favors
Give your guests a little something to remember the “Supreme Leader” and his family.

For a great favor, handout color copies of Kim Jong Il (father) and Kim Il Sung (grandfather). (Pictures of these men in your home is, after all, mandatory.) Don't forget to send guests home with a dusting cloth to wipe their images.

Make sure to include a tag thanking guests to coming to your party. Sign it with the hosts’ names – Kim Jong Un (aka the “Supreme Leader”) and his wife Ri Sol-ju.

Happy birthday Kim Jung Un from Party411.com!
